The Research Engineer contributes to the necessary applied (analytical and numerical) research, specification, implementation, documentation, verification and validation of PLAXIS features, related to the use of the software in various practical applications in geotechnical engineering, such as dams and dikes, tunnels, foundations, excavations and underground structures.
Specific activities the Research Engineer is responsible for are:
- Implementation of soil/rock constitutive models.
- Implementation of advanced numerical algorithms for solving complex geo-mechanical problems.
- Elaboration of verification/validation examples/case studies in geotechnical engineering, using different analytical and numerical techniques, in combination with field- and lab test data.
- Documentation and presentation of new features, both internally and at conferences.
- Cooperation with other product development groups to provide geotechnical engineering expertise
Requirements:
- PhD (or MSc with >3 years of experience) in Geotechnical Engineering or strictly related field, with a proven and solid background in soil/rock mechanics.
- Experience with the implementation of constitutive models for soil/rock mechanics and/or discretization strategies (e.g. FEM or FDM) in computational geo-mechanics.
- Knowledge and proven implementation experience in C/C++ and/or Fortran programming languages.
- Communicative, analytical and didactical skills.
- Problem-solving attitude.
- Proficient in English, both written and verbal.
Additional preferred qualifications:
