Job Description
We are seeking a hands-on Research and Engineering Intern with deep knowledge and interest in semantic technologies and knowledge graph with a focus on their extensions and industrial application. Our research group works with Siemens’ business units from the early phase of finding opportunities through designing solutions and implementing prototypes as well as government funding agencies to develop cutting edge application prototypes and end solutions. To succeed in this role, we need someone who has the ability to think out of the box, innovate and find sound solutions to customer problems and help us transform industry! This right person for this role has knowledge and experience in semantic technologies (ontologies, rules, standards, interoperability, validation), semantic web services, and knowledge representation and reasoning formalisms (OWL/RDFS). The candidate will also have competencies in knowledge graph technologies or linked data platforms. The candidate is interested in developing skills related to transferring semantic methods to - and providing working solutions for - scientific and industrial applications. The Challenge In this role as a Research and Engineering Intern, you will: Apply knowledge representation and semantic reasoning to real-world industrial problems. Contribute to the implementation of research projects and develop semantic models/applications to be executed on various types of systems. Be involved in stages of semantic data development including but not limited to semantic data modeling, data/entity extraction, natural language alignment techniques, knowledge graph construction, semantic frontend and querying. The Candidate Qualified candidates will have: B.S. or M.S in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline Active experience with modeling languages such as OWL/RDFS; experience with data-driven ontology development a plus Familiarization with technologies such as SPARQL, SPIN, RESTful Semantic Web Services, Semantic Reasoning. Practical experience with Web Service Technologies, Semantic Web, Semantic Sensor Networks, Semantic Search and Reasoning. Experience implementing Natural Language algorithms or experience with Natural Language Understanding applications and libraries such as NLTK, Spacy, etc. Experience using some form of GraphDB or Triple store (e.g., Virtuoso, Neo4j, Neptune): population, operations, querying (e.g., SPARQL, Cypher, Gremlin), and application integration. Familiarization developing and deploying semantic applications. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude. Ability to work independently and prioritize work. Strong collaboration skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility and adaptability to work in a diverse and dynamic team. Mix of technical curiosity and feel for business relevance. Preferred Qualifications Experience building recommendation engines and other analytics applications using AI, Machine Learning Experience in Data Extraction, Transformation and Load (ETL) from various data sources (relational, non-relational, log, text, and etc.) Experience with standards such as FSGIM, BIM, CIM, EDDL, OPC UA, ISA 88, ISA 95, etc. a plus. Familiarization with machine learning algorithms based on data ingested to knowledge graphs Knowledge of building analytics applications on top of a semantic foundation. Hands-on experience with graph analytics (e.g., graph neural networks, embeddings) Experience in deep learning, data mining, and data analytics. Application of real-world/domain knowledge in these areas is a plus. Successful candidate must be able to work with controlled technology in accordance with US Export Control Law.
