The Research Scientist, R&D, is responsible for the successful advancement of pipeline compounds from Phase I through filing and launch as well as advancing drug delivery research. This individual has multi-disciplinary scientific expertise, leads all aspects of science and strategy for multiple projects through a matrixed organization, and is an effective communicator to all levels of the organization. Responsibilities include building highly effective research teams that deliver on aggressive goals by defining clear objectives for each project, working with team members to design and execute the right experiments in the most efficient manner, critically analyzing extensive and complex data to make scientific decisions, and clearly communicating program status and updates. Responsibilities: Responsible for advancing small molecule pipeline through various clinical development phases Ensure scientific excellence across programs. Work collaboratively with core team members across functions to design and execute appropriate experiments to efficiently advance projects to key decisions. Keep teams on track to accomplish project goals Critically analyze data and lead teams to solve issues and make best scientific decisions. Identify and utilize appropriate internal and external experts and resources to advise and advance the project. Prepare all necessary documents and presentations that demonstrate progress of projects to a variety of audiences including functional heads and other senior leaders. Review and/or author/co-author internal reports/memos as well as Regulatory filings such as INDs, NDAs etc. Mentor and develop junior scientists Qualifications Basic: PhD with 15+ years experience or MS/BS with equivalent experience Demonstrated multi-disciplinary scientific expertise and critical knowledge of all relevant disciplines to facilitate timely execution of project components, preferably a minimum of 5+ years experience as a late-stage core team member and/or co-project lead across multiple projects. Broad scientific experience across multiple projects spanning the range of Preformulation to On-Market Support Recognized key scientific opinion leader with strong and active publication track record Drives divisional performance by designing and implementing innovative studies aimed at new or improved products, technologies Effective communication and problem-solving skill Extensive leadership experience and proven ability to inspire and motivate team members even with no direct reporting relationship Significant Work Activities Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day) Travel Yes, 20 % of the Time Job Type Experienced Schedule Full-time Job Level Code D Equal Employment Opportunity At AbbVie, we value bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to develop new and innovative solutions for patients.
