Job Description

Microsoft Research is where leading scientists and engineers have the freedom and support to propel discovery and innovation. Here, they pursue and publish curiosity-driven research in a range of scientific and technical disciplines that can be translated into products. With access to vast computing power, global multi-disciplinary teams tackle complex problems that drive breakthrough technologies and improve lives.

The Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) project in Microsoft Research aims to enable BCI for the general population. This means non-intrusive methods, fewer number of electrodes and custom-designed signal picking devices. We go towards interactive BCI, which means response times within seconds and using EEG signals. After successful 2019 summer with three BCI interns, we are looking for another round of summer intern projects and pushing forward the state of the art in this area. In the BCI project are involved researcher from the Audio and Acoustics Research Group and from Perception and Interaction Research Group.

Responsibilities

Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world’s best researchers, interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, students are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer. You can find more information at https://careers.microsoft.com/us/en/usphdandresearch.

The summer interns in MSR BCI will work on well framed projects that allow for open exploration and collaboration, under the guidance of their mentors. The internship ends with a final presentation open to all Microsoft employees, and ideally results in a peer-reviewed scientific publication.
