FUSE Labs is an agile cross-disciplinary lab at the forefront of Microsoft’s focus on Conversation as a Platform (CaaP), developing and delivering conversational AI solutions via Microsoft Bot Framework (http://dev.botframework.com) which enables developers to build and connect intelligent assistants and bots to users wherever they are – from Facebook Messenger, Slack, Kik, Telegram and more.

We seek a hands-on applied scientist who is excited in tackling hard conversational AI challenges. As part of the FUSE Labs team, you will work closely with our scientists, partner teams across Microsoft to provide the next generation solutions. Responsibilities
Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world’s best researchers, interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, students are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.
Responsibilities Include:
• Research, design, implement and evaluate novel models and approaches for real-world NLP problems
• Analyze data, design and run experiments
• Contribute technical expertise in various stages of product design and development
• Bring a new point of view to improving the AI enabled solutions

Required Qualifications
• PhD student in Computer Science, statistics, mathematics, EE, equivalent with NLP and ML/algorithms experience
• At least one year of experience writing code (Python, C++, C#
• Working knowledge of ML toolkits (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, Caffe, scikit-learn)
• Experience applying transformer-based methods (e.g. BERT)
Preferred Qualifications
• Passion for natural language processing and the methods/technologies involved
• Attention to details and passion for high quality software and ML solutions
• Excellent critical thinking and communication skills
