Research Intern: Real-time Communication for Smart Grid IoT Job Description The Research in Digitalization and Automation (RDA) department, as part of Siemens Technology (T), is at the heart of Siemens R&D. At Siemens Technology, we are seeking a Summer Intern in the field of networking for smart distributed grid to investigate resilient communication across distributed micro-grid controllers emulated on single-board computers. Approaches to advance existing state-of-the-art platforms to create cross platform communication among distributed grid entities will be explored. This internship will focus on connecting micro-grid controllers and distributed energy resources by creating a cloud-edge hybrid energy service interface. This internship provides you an opportunity to contribute to and experience the excitement and challenges of industrial research. Hence, we offer this as a remote internship and thus encourage applicants from across the country. What are my responsibilities? Setup of Internet of Things (IoT) testbed with a focus on hardware and software/networking infrastructure Develop demonstrators to leverage the infrastructure and perform experiments to collect performance metrics Collaborate and exchange ideas with experts in the fields of distributing computing and industrial communication Review available academic literature to create an overview about existing approaches and results, as well as directions in academic research Select a subset of existing approaches and devise a strategy to create a Proof of Concept to allow further assessment of feasibility for automation Document your findings as a publishable scientific paper Present and discuss results within the research team What skills are needed to qualify for this internship? student in Computer Science Computer or related subject Solid programming skill in Python, Java or C/C++) and experience with network protocols TCP/IP, UDP, DHCP, BGP and Network Tunnelling) Experience with standard software development processes, methodologies, and best practices (including requirements analysis, software architecture and design, and verification) Hands on experience with Linux, command lines and basic knowledge on AWS and Containers Experience with network monitoring tools, IP Table or network monitoring libraries Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English with an excellent interpersonal skills and can-do attitude Drive and motivation for career development and open to take responsibilities for challenging tasks About Us Siemens is a global technology powerhouse that has stood for engineering excellence, innovation, quality, reliability and internationally for more than 172 years.
