Job Description

DEPARTMENT OF CHINESE AND BILINGUAL STUDIES

Research / Project Assistant (three posts) (Ref. 20090107)
[Appointment period: twelve months initially, with possibility of further appointment]  

Duties 

The appointees will assist the project leader in a research project which aims at supporting Ethnic Minority Primary Students for Smooth Transition and Social Integration through Home-School-Community Collaboration. They will be required to:

(a) conduct literature review on research topics related to the project, including but not limited to child language acquisition, teaching of Chinese as a second language, play-based learning, language assessment, IT-mediated language learning etc.;

(b) assist the Research Associates in collecting and analysing data and disseminating research results as well as project outcomes;

(c) assist in designing, developing and implementing different kinds of learning support activities for partner schools;

(d) assist the Research Associate in organising workshops and project meetings as required;

(e) assist the Research Associates in preparation and dissemination of research results and project outcomes; and

(f) perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegates.

The appointees may be required to work outside normal office hours, including Saturdays and Sundays, and will constantly be required to work outside the campus.

Qualifications 

Applicants should:

(a) have an honours degree in Chinese Language & Literature, Chinese Linguistics, Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, Early Childhood Education or Second Language Acquisition with good knowledge of the Chinese language;

(b) have experience in developing multimedia Chinese language learning materials; and

(c) be self-disciplined, motivated with good interpersonal skills and collegiate manner.

Preference will be given to those who have knowledge of and experience in teaching Chinese as a second language, educational technology and media, curriculum and instruction, and early childhood education.
