DEPARTMENT OF CHINESE AND BILINGUAL STUDIES

Research / Project Associate (two posts) (Ref. 20090106)
[Appointment period: twelve months initially, with possibility of further appointment]  

Duties 

The appointees will assist the project leader in a research project which aims at supporting Ethnic Minority Primary Students for Smooth Transition and Social Integration through Home-School-Community Collaboration. They will be required to:

(a) conduct literature review on research topics related to the project, including but not limited to child language acquisition, teaching of Chinese as a second language, play-based learning, language assessment, IT-mediated language learning etc.;

(b) collect and analyse data and disseminate research results as well as project outcomes;

(c) take an active role in designing, developing and implementing different kinds of learning support activities for partner schools;

(d) work with partner school teachers in preparing lesson plans and teaching materials;

(e) liaise with schools in conducting different kinds of support activities;

(f) prepare school reports and project reports; and

(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegates.

The appointees may be required to work outside normal office hours, including Saturdays and Sundays, and will constantly be required to work outside the campus.

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

(a) have a master’s degree in Chinese Language & Literature, Chinese Linguistics, Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, Early Childhood Education or Second Language Acquisition with solid knowledge of the Chinese language;

(b) have a local teacher’s certificate or postgraduate diploma/certificate in Education;

(c) have at least two years’ working experience in the education field, either as front-line teacher, or as curriculum/learning material developer/research assistant in relevant fields;

(d) have experience in conducting research in the education field;

(e) be self-disciplined, motivated with good interpersonal skills and collegiate manner.

Preference will be given to those who have knowledge of and experience in educational technology and media, curriculum and instruction, and development of multimedia Chinese language learning materials.
