Microsoft’s communication intelligence research team is looking for an excellent Ph.D. candidate for a summer internship. Our team is focused on applied research in the field of NLP, utilizing state-of-the-art Deep Learning techniques for solving complex text-related problems. Our data includes emails, instant messaging (like Skype and MS Teams), and meeting transcripts, and our goal is to detect user intent and extract text semantics in order to improve user’s productivity, based on these huge data sets. On top of that, our solutions need not only to be accurate, but also efficient in order to perform on the massive scale of Microsoft users.
During your summer internship, you will join our research group, share our challenges, brain-storms, user feedbacks, and join our journey to provide better experience and empowerment to millions of users. If you are passionate about complex problem solving and interested in applying ML/DL in the exciting field of NLP – we can promise an unmatched adventure.
Responsibilities
The main goal of the internship will be to solve a challenging NLP task, apply it to real data, prove its value, and publish your results in a paper, submitted to a leading relevant journal.
Relevant tasks would be, for example:
- Decisions detection over meeting transcripts
- Extraction of task-related context
- Extract the meaning of user’s commitment and detect similar commitments over meeting transcripts
- Over meeting transcripts, detect sentences where speaker X is talking of topic Y
- And many more…
Qualifications
- PhD student in Computer Science / Mathematics / Bioinformatics / Engineering or equivalent
- Knowledge and experience of utilizing Deep Learning techniques for solving NLP problems
- At least one-year experience in writing Python code and with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow)
- Independent and self-learner
- Team player, enthusiastic with a get-things-done attitude
