Westport Fuel Systems is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Resident/Quality Engineer in Shandong China. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the HD truck OEM area with experience in the areas of powertrain engineering, technical troubleshooting, customer service, training, quality engineering and experience with natural gas fuel systems. The position will be responsible for customer support through product development, launch and supporting production operations.

Position Responsibilities

Resident Engineer

• Liaise between OEM Customer and Westport technical staff.Translate and communicate detailed technical information between Westport Fuel System quality and engineering personnel, and the OEM customer.
• Work with OEM customers to ensure timely and effective support of Westport Fuel Systems components
• Pre- and post-production activities including vehicle testing, production and operation support.
• Deliver technical training and mentorship as required by customer to ensure a high level of customer product expertise.

Quality Engineer

• Participate in MRB (material review boards) as required and drive resolution of non-conformities (NCRs) and Corrective Actions (CAs);
• Review process planning documents (Process Flows, PFMEAs, Tools Lists, Control Plan, Work Instructions, etc) and provide inputs as they relate to PPAP risks and interface with Design and Supplier Quality documents
• Review Eng’g documents (Technical Profile, DFMEA, Eng’g Tolerance Compatibility Sheets, P/DVP&R, drawings, etc) and provide inputs as they relate to APQP risks and interface with Mfg and Supplier Quality documents
• Review Supplier PPAP documents as they related to customer PPAP and Eng’g and ME documents
• Compile Customer PPAP package, lead internal reviews, seek removal of roadblocks, management approval and sign customer PSW
• Track and report on PPAP project status, issues management (e.g. Paynter Chart) and other quality engineering metrics

Position Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.
• Strong written and verbal English and Mandarin communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to communicate well with people of varying technical abilities and levels
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical problem-solving and data analysis skills
• Ability to work largely unsupervised
• At least five years of HD engine or vehicle experience.
• Familiarity with natural gas vehicles, systems, and related experience will be considered an asset
• Experience with Weichai powertrain systems or Shanqii HD trucks will be considered an asset
• In-depth knowledge of engine and vehicle controls systems and data acquisition
• Experience with and good working knowledge of INCA software will be considered an asset
• Experience with product quality support for development, launch and production operations
• Experience with leading quality containment activities; experience with field campaigns is an asset
• Experience in manufacturing environment for mechanical and electrical components, understanding of process capabilities
• Experience with engineering drawings with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
• Knowledge of 8D, FMEA
• Have the ability to accept highly flexible hours with frequent local and international travel up to 25%
