Job Description

The Robot Integration Specialist: 

  • Leads robotic automation deliverables in an advanced manufacturing environment using Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Coordinates and takes the lead role for the technical/functional development and supports automation technology.
  • Creates and manages new and existing robot programming solutions to meet design specifications and group standards for new models, design changes, and continuous improvement objectives.
  • Performs comprehensive testing and commissioning of equipment and automation systems.
  • Performs weekend and major shutdown planning activities.
  • Prioritizes and adapts plans to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and maximizes unplanned downtime activities.
  • Supports production in planned and unplanned downtime recovery.
  • Solves complex automation problems to ensure quality adherence and cycle time objectives are met.
  • Drives continuous improvement by recognizing and implementing robotic programming solutions.
  • Ensures issues are reported, tracked, and resolved accordingly.
  • Drives and supports testing and commissioning activities of existing and new technologies.
  • Supports and collaborates with materials specialists to support trials and changes in materials.
  • Makes informed decisions on process changes.
  • Guides robot programming activities to improve and optimize program pathing to ensure process and equipment sustainability.
  • Performs evaluations and capability studies to support new model development, body style changes, new color introductions, robotic tooling, new technologies, and structural additions and modifications.
  • Drives continuous improvement activities related to robotic automation such as cycle time, seam quality, material coverage and part interference area.
  • Integrates new automation systems and technologies to meet BMW targets and objectives.
  • Supports production areas to troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis.
  • Directly performs training and assists in coordination of training and development for responsible area.
  • Works with process partners material planning, process planning, new model planning, structure planning, and production teams to ensure cohesiveness relating to automation.
  • Maintains Automation LOP to ensure tasks are tracked and completed on time.
  • Understands and maintains robot utilization and cycle time trackers.
  • Steers contractors on assigned tasks.
  • Understands and models VPS (Value Added Production System) Principles and concepts of Standard Work and Problem Solving.
  • Adheres to 5S and Safety Standards and Principles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

  • BA/BS degree or the equivalent of 4 years of experience in an automotive manufacturing production environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in robotics programming (automotive preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience with data analysis tools.
  • 3+ years of experience with complex problem solving.
  • 3+ years of experience with vision systems (preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience with simulation software (preferred).
  • 1+ years of experience with new model integration.
  • 3+ years of knowledge with written and verbal communication skills as proven through business application.
  • 3+ years of knowledge in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project).
