Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Research Scientist Formulation Development, are to: 

 

  • Manage portfolio of Formulation Development Projects (Liquids, Semi-solids and Solids);
  • Contribute and lead identification of Formulation Development strategy for assigned projects;
  • Develop and communicate timelines and assess cost for Formulation Development work;
  • Coordinate and execute laboratory development activities;
  • Provide oversight of junior level Formulation Development colleagues to execute experimental plans and batch manufacturing;
  • Coordinate external development activities (as required) by providing technical leadership and accountability for delivering timing commitments;
  • Present sub-team recommendations, conclusions, and challenges to Technical Leads;
  •  Lead development and/or author technical documentation to support launch and regulatory approval of projects (i.e. Development Plans and Reports and Technical Regulatory Documentation);
  • Make recommendations to Marketing groups based on evolving technology and potential opportunities to improve value to our customers and consumers;
  • Assure that applicable Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements are implemented and followed in local procedures related to Supply Chain Processes;
  • Effectively communicate, explain, and recommend to subordinates, colleagues, and management the results of designs, studies, and/or projects in terms of new techniques or approaches for introducing/troubleshooting technologies;
  • Ideate/develop/assess novel conceptual ideas with an open mind to be willing to explore new technologies, formulations, etc.;
  • Solve technical problems by application of knowledge and creative thinking, creating simple, cost effective and compliant solutions;
  • Develop creative, novel, practical processes/programs leading to implementation of new products or technologies which supports the business goals of the organization;
  • Identify and assesses technical risks and align cross-functional project team members to assure compliance with Bayer policies and regulatory requirements;
  • Control and execute technical milestones according to project timelines;
  • Understand and support setting of strategy for Intellectual Property (IP), trademarks, exclusivity agreements, New Drug Application (NDA);
  • Have a basic understanding of analytical/pre-formulation instruments such as HPLC, DSC, Particle Sizer etc.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences/Chemical Engineering/Chemistry with 6 years of experience in Formulation or Processing development OR a Master of Pharmaceutical Science / Food Science & Technology with 2 years of experience in Formulation or Processing Development OR a Pharm.D. or Ph.D. In Chemical Engineering/Chemistry, Biology, Food Science & Technology, Pharmaceutical Technology centered around formulation and processing;
  • Industry and/or academic research experience working on product development with significant expertise in liquids, semisolid & solids processing and unit operations;
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and apply the scientific aspects and communicate with all levels of personnel the results of projects;
  • Ability to manage regulatory agency inquiries/documentation related to product technical issues;
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and work independently in a changing environment;
  • Personal computer skills;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software & Statistical Software.
