The S&C Apprenticeship Training Program (ATP) Instructor provides a combination of classroom and practical laboratory training that in combination with the on-the-job training qualification turns apprentices with an aptitude for Signals and Communications (S&C) into S&C Maintainers. The ATP Instructor teaches apprentices the fundamentals of each of electromechanical and electronic components used in the railway and then incorporates this knowledge into the teaching of the broader railway systems such as road crossing control units and centralized traffic control, while timely referencing all the pertinent S&C Standards throughout each module of the training for how these systems are to be constructed and tested. The S&C ATP Instructor works in close coordination with the OJT Trainer and local S&C Maintenance Supervisors and Managers to ensure employees are properly qualified and adjusts the training based on new requirement or to address any common gaps in employee knowledge. The S&C ATP Instructor also creates additional training as needed. When needed, the S&C ATP Instructor will also spend time in the field observing firsthand how employees work and coaching and mentoring them.
