Eaton’s Electrical Sector is currently seeking a Software Engineer – UI/UX to join our team. This position is based at our Montreal, QC location. Position Overview: The Software Engineer – UI/UX will be responsible for leading design and development of Front-end Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and web-based configuration tools and mobile applications for monitoring and configuration of a family of Microgrid Controllers. This role will work closely with a multi-discipline team to meet product technical and marketing requirements, and provide continuous improvement based on customer feedback. In this role, you lead the human-centered design efforts for our software solutions by defining UI/UX standards and ensuring that user experience best practices are implemented. This role is responsible for all stages of user interface development including vision, gathering requirements, project planning, software structure, Back-end data management, data visualization, development, testing, deployment, and support that ultimately solves a customer or business problem. In this function you will: Lead the architecture, design, development, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of HMI and web-based user interface. Be responsible for defining and building out a software system architecture for user interface applications including the interconnectivity of embedded devices, and backend data management services. Lead a well-established team of software engineers, developers, and testers to deliver high-quality, highly-performance UI/UX. Provide technical leadership to all lifecycle stages including requirements analysis, architecture/technical specifications, software design, implementation, Q&A, and maintenance. Demonstrate, present, and document solutions by using flowcharts, diagrams, code comments, code snippets, and performance instruments. Provide work estimates and participate in design, implementation, and code reviews. Work closely with global Business Leaders, Engineering Manager, Project Managers, Product Team, Stakeholders, software developers, architects, and IT to define requirements, manage solution backlogs, prioritize work, coordinate product roadmaps, and iteratively deliver new features on a regular cadence. Drive process improvements within the software development team and the Business Unit. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor of Science Degree in computer science or engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum of 4 years of experience in User Interface development (HMI, Web, and Mobile) for industrial products No Sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada on an ongoing basis without company sponsorship. Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent 4+ years of experience developing enterprise grade, highly scalable web-based applications and/or distributed systems 3+ years in teams applying modern agile software development practices such as SCRUM, etc. Excellent level skills in Python, C++ / C# / Visual Studio / Visual Code, Experience with Java / JavaScript / HTML5 / CSS3 Experience with dynamic web application frameworks (e.g. AngularJS, React, etc.) Experience with native app development for iOS and/or Android Graphic design experience and a strong eye for good UX design Experience working with various UI/UX collaboration tools such as Figma, Miro, etc. Experience conducting user research and iterative designing using prototyping and wireframing Experience in test-driven development practices Experience with SQL. Position Criteria: Abreast of upcoming software development/engineering tools, trends, and methodologies Good judgment, time management, and decision-making skills Collaborate with a global multi-discipline engineering team (software, embedded software, hardware, power systems, systems, product, and test) to deliver products and features in the cloud. High skill level with TypeScript, JavaScript, REST web services, HTML5, and CSS/SASS High skill level with Angular, React, or similar TypeScript/JavaScript frameworks Expert level skills in Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), C++, Python and/or Java and associated IDE’s (Visual Studio, Eclipse, IntelliJ, etc.) Thorough understanding of software design principles, algorithms, data structures, and multithreading concepts. Understanding of object-oriented design and programming skills, including the use of design patterns Working knowledge of microservices and reactive streams Strong problem solving and software debugging skills Exceptional ability to lead, collaborate, openly communicate, influence others, present, and negotiate effectively across disciplines and stakeholders (marketing, engineering, customer support, etc.) Demonstrated experience delivering results in an ambiguous and changing environment, with the ability to work independently and be a self-starter, working multi-task on several initiatives at one time, in a fast-moving and evolving business Ability to demonstrate technical learning and can learn new skills, knowledge, industry, product, or technical knowledge Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
