Job Description

Education & Experience

  • Possess a Mechanical and/or Manufacturing Engineering Degree, Mechanical Technology Diploma/Certificate or a Quality Engineering Certificate.
  • A minimum of four years related practical experience as an SDE/SQE.
  • Experience with Aftermarket Auto and Marine engine, drive and electric components an asset.
  • Experience in both low and high volume fast phased manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset (MRP, ERP, Configuration Management etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating the Advanced Planning Quality Process (APQP) for new supplier parts and product launches.
  • Coordinate, influence or lead suppliers toward products or process improvements.
  • Using 8D methodologies, determine the root-cause and correct manufacturing, warranty and scrap issues within a cross functional team.
  • Responsible for the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) from the supplier.
  • Process MRRs, Changes and PPAPs.
  • Develop control plans, process flow diagrams, PFMEAs and inspection plans with suppliers.
  • Integrate quality requirements in supplier programs and support Standardized Work, 5S and Preventive Maintenance (PM) implementation in supplier productions.
  • Champion the SCAR (Supplier Corrective Action) process (Initiate, drive, confirm, and complete) initiated by other Dometic’s global manufacturing facilities.
  • Coordinate with various departments such as Design, Engineering, Strategic Sourcing and Operations; conduct problem investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Liaise with suppliers directly on quality issues and with Strategic Sourcing on progress of supplier activities.
  • Assist suppliers in the development of sampling plans for statistical processes and implement statistical process controls into supplier production cells.
  • Determine incoming inspection requirements and select gauges for parts from suppliers.
  • Apply engineering disciplines to maintain the integrity of organizational quality standards.
  • Play a key role in the Product Development Process (PDP) to implement controls on vendor selection and part procurement.
  • Visit suppliers as required to deal with onsite quality matters.
  • Complete additional job duties and assignments up to 15% of the time.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 25% (domestic and international).

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong communication capability.
  • Strong familiarity with ISO9001 or TS16949.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making abilities.
  • Strong familiarity with GD&T.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to manage a variety of tasks.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office programs including: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint; and, the ability to learn other applications quickly.
  • Must have real world experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and a respect for difference.
  • Professional demeanor whether in person, via email or on the telephone.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes (machining, aluminum casting, mechanical assembly, welding, molding). Some familiarity with electrical assembly processes.
  • Ability to utilize and implement Standardized Work, 5S, PM and quality requirements.
  • Familiar with various types of measurement gauges, i.e.: Micrometer, Caliper, Mueller, Sunnen, Dial bore, Feeler gauges, Pressure gauges, Multimeter, Air gauges, go/no-go gauges.
  • Working knowledge of:
  • APQP elements, in-depth FMEA knowledge.
  • Basic statistical skills (normal distribution, cpk, ppk).
  • Working knowledge of GR&R and SPC.
  • Awareness or knowledge of CMM and interpreting results.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a strong team.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing/production industry would be an asset.

Deliverables

  • The employee will be measured on targets specified for PDP projects, FPY (First Pass Yield), Scrap, Warranty Rate due to supplier parts and SCAR’s closure effectiveness.
