What is this role?

At its heart, SDL is a global technology business.  The business of ‘Translation’ (or more accurately ‘Localisation’) and Content Management requires complex but highly efficient infrastructures for the management, storage, global distribution and transformation of multiple file types on a massive scale.
SDL are looking for a Production DBA. The primary responsibility is to maintain the SQL infrastructure that underpins SDL Global Business operations. The role will also work with the SDL internal and offshore development team.

Responsibilities:

As part of SDL’s global technology team which supports the SDL Language Services business and internal business operations, this role will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of SDL’s internal database infrastructure, configure servers and automate tasks to improve performance and improve reliability.

Primary Duties

• SQL server 2012 -2019
• SQL upgrade & migration
• SQL performance tuning
• SQL maintenance & backups
• SQL server & database scalability & reliability
• SQL archiving
• SQL job management & monitoring
• SQL security
• Transact SQL (TSQL) & willingness to work with developers to support & modify existing database systems
• SQL troubleshooting, error monitoring
• SQL service pack & patching (out of hours)
• Project work implementing new systems with database components
• SQL data model reviews of undocumented systems
• You will validate data models and be involved with testing to ensure that the database systems can meet the end user’s requirements.

Requirements:

Work with the Internal SDL Development and test teams assisting them with the development activities. This can include providing guidance on complex queries and the optimisation of processes and statements. You will be expected to share your knowledge through mentorship and training of the development team(s) to enhance their database knowledge and skill set.

Key competencies:

• Ideally, applicants will be educated to degree standard
• Several Years’ Experience with Database Administration for MSSQL Server.
• Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
• Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimisation, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
• Experience of Patching and Upgrading HA systems.
• Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
• Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server.
• Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts.
• Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics.
• Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory.
• Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on the Company’s success.
• Critical thinker and problem-solving skills.
• Team player, collaboration with remote teams is essential
• Ability to work independently, but able to report plans & progress
• Follow company process eg change control
• Good time-management skills.
• Good interpersonal, communication and documentation skills.
• MCDBA, MCTS, MCITP
