Avenues New York opened in 2012 and serves 1,550 students in grades nursery – 12. Avenues São Paulo and the state of the art Avenues Shenzhen ( http://shenzhen.avenues.org/ ) Learning Innovation Center opened in 2018, and Avenues Shenzhen is scheduled to open in 2019.

The Avenues Mastery Academy offers an intensive semester program that is one part specialized prep school and one part makerspace. The Avenues Mastery Academy is inspired by 15th-century Renaissance studios: an academic apprentice-learning model in which top high school students form a community working side-by-side with master instructors and expert practitioners in a state-of-the-art maker studio. Under the wings of these mentors, Academy students undertake ambitious projects—manufacturing a smartphone, building a robot, analyzing social implications of privacy and open-source electronics—in a sequence that traces history's key inventions in mechanics, electronics, and artificial intelligence to transform students into inventors themselves.

The Avenues Mastery Academy brings together students from around the world with a passion for innovation and making. Students plug into the unique electronics ecosystem of Shenzhen, exploring leading technology companies, and joining the maker community. In short, this learning experience can only happen at the Avenues Mastery Academy in Innovation and Making.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Program development:

• Design and develop transformational learning experiences around thoughtful learning outcomes, focusing particularly on software and mathematics, or hardware and manufacturing
• Develop an innovative program structure and schedule based on achieving learning goals, not a pre-set schedule of disparate classes
• Assist with admissions and marketing as needed
• Collaborate with exceptional colleagues to navigate unexpected challenges and ambiguity entailed in establishing a new program

Instruction:

• Enable students to thoughtfully and successfully complete ambitious projects such as creating personalized smartphones or remote navigation robots
• Collaborate with expert practitioners to prepare students for successful post-graduate pursuits
• Work with students in a variety of formats, including groups and individually, using direct instruction and facilitation, providing feedback and independent practice

Learner Experience:

• Support in proposing, planning, and arranging out-of-school trip and events
• Build a learning atmosphere that forms a rigorous, joyful, and trusting community with students from around the world
• Engage students in navigating Shenzhen
• Support students' mental and physical health
