The Global & National Industries segment (GNI) is a client coverage segment of the US CCB organized by industry: Technology, Media and Telecommunication (TMT), Energy, Industrials, Healthcare, Branded Consumer, and Food & Agriculture. Growth in this segment is based on a prudent and organized approach to client selection and capital allocation to ensure we are developing strong relationships with clients who seek Citi’s unique value proposition based on our global platform and sophisticated product set, including the investment banking services offered through the bank’s Institutional and Corporate Group (ICG). For day-to-day banking, the vast majority of the GNI clients use CitiDirect, Citibank's web-based global banking platform that supports a full range of transaction and reporting capabilities in a secure environment. The GNI TMT vertical seeks to establish banking relationships with emerging-growth and later-stage, US-headquartered companies in the TMT sector, either private or public, with revenues between $50 million and the upper end of the US CCB target market. Success requires a skill set and experience that allows the bank to offer customers and prospects more complex products and customized transaction structures.
Commercial Lending Management (“CLM”) manages the end to end commercial lending process for GNI and certain Mid Corporate clients of the US CCB. Key responsibilities include loan underwriting, credit and financial due diligence, portfolio management, loan structuring and documentation, and credit delivery and servicing. CLM manages approximately $20 billion in credit exposure across 2,000+ credit relationships. Commercial Industries& Regional Credit (“CIRC”) is a unit of CLM that manages the lending process for select clients in the GNI and Mid Corporate client segments. This loan portfolio includes secured and unsecured revolving lines of credit and term loans, syndicated loans, leveraged loans, cross border loans approved locally and extended overseas through the CCB’s global network of 30 countries, commercial cards, cash management lines, and derivative liens of credit. The CIRC loan portfolio totals $10.3 billion and spans 265+ US CCB relationships across six industry verticals: TMT, Energy, Industrials, Healthcare, Branded Consumer, and Food & Agriculture.
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated senior risk professional to join CIRC’s TMT team. The positon reports directly to the CIRC TMT Team Leader and will based in New York (Preferred) or San Francisco, CA.

Position Summary
The Commercial Lending Specialist position will be responsible for providing thorough, objective analysis of the financial condition and credit worthiness of borrowers, including prevailing Technology, Media and Telecommunication industries and market conditions, as well as structuring recommendations. The Specialist is expected to own and lead the more complex credit/loan delivery process, including new money transactions, annual reviews, greenlight memo process, legal documentation and overall portfolio management of assigned credits. In addition, the role will have management oversight responsibilities with respect to junior Lending Specialists with matrix oversight of the credit analysts.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a seasoned and experienced senior credit underwriting executive with a deep and relevant industry expertise of commercial and cross border lending and his/her assigned industry vertical
- Facilitate the end to end credit approval process within the US CCB for the assigned relationships and portfolio
- Provide CLM covering authority approval in tandem with Independent Risk
- Manage the workflow of underwriting requests for credit extensions and annual reviews; reviews CAS and credit memos, drafts term sheet with the Relationship Managers (RM)
- Supervise the timely preparation of monthly and/or quarterly financial memo reviews of existing borrowers to track compliance with loan covenants, raising potential concerns to RMs and Mark and Area Managers for the assigned portfolio
- Be an effective leader in complex transactions, including syndications, leveraged lending, and multi-level capital structures; work proactively, and in a constructive and diplomatic manner, with internal and external stakeholders to keep transactions moving smoothly
- Develop and maintain a high performance loan underwriting team, with a focus on driving the quality of the teams’ work product, engagement, leadership, voice and partnership internally and externally with clients; set appropriate goals and provide timely feedback, coaching, and training to motivate and develop junior staff
- Partner with client segment leadership to grow the loan portfolio responsibly within a defined industry vertical while ensuring appropriate asset quality levels and adhering to credit policy and regulatory requirements
- Lead and supervise the loan documentation process for both new transactions and amendments or modifications; include coordination with relationship managers, Commercial Lending Specialist and inside and/or outside legal counsel to ensure that all credit approval terms and conditions are appropriately dimensioned in the closing documents and any exceptions prior to closing are communicated and approved by Independent Risk
- Be fully knowledgeable of assigned portfolio and have the ability to interact with regulators, internal auditors and other internal constituencies in terms of providing information and addressing questions and comments
- Act as a US TMT Industry Specialist supporting global initiatives and task forces in an advisory/ consultation capacity

- Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree helpful but not required
- 10+ years of experience in credit underwriting, portfolio and/ or risk management with a large multinational financial services organization is required
- Credit authority or candidate for delegated authority within 12 to 24 months
- Experience working with a team of commercial loan / credit underwriters and analysts; technically credible and demonstrates pragmatic business judgement, flexible thinking and a commercial instinct
- Deep industry and credit expertise in his/her assigned industry vertical; ability to manage complex leverage finance and syndicated credit transactions
- Expert credit resource who can move fluidly across a broad range of loan products, including secured and unsecured revolving lines of credit and term loans, syndicated loans, leveraged loans, asset based loans, bilateral loans, cross border lending, cards, cash management lines, and derivative lines of credit
- Demonstrated understanding of legal documentation minimum standards and experience meeting all loan closing requirements; knowledge and proficiency in more complex legal documentation standards and requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of intermediate accounting theory and its practical application in the credit underwriting process
- Excellent communication (written, verbal, presentation and listening) and organizational skills; ability to complete assignments in a timely manner
- Strong early problem recognition and resolution skills
- Capable of building consensus across functional silos and multiple stakeholders; ability to make decisions and take action with less than perfect information
