An opportunity has arisen for a Safe Work Leader 2 to join the established team based in the West Midlands on a 12-month Fixed-Term Contract. Key Responsibilities Identify risks associated with the work site and instigate protection arrangements for a safe system of work. Plan work, attend planning meetings and assist in the creation of safe work packs for worksite safety critical staff Ensure the safety culture is authentic zero accident / incident Set up possession/ protection arrangements as described in the Rule book. Ensure productivity and workmanship of staff is of the required standard. Ensure all site operations are carried out safely and in accordance with relevant standards including undertaking periodic site safety checks. Report on accidents/near misses as required Brief all COSS’s / SWL’s on selected method of protection and any hazards identified within the worksite. Record briefing in accordance with company procedures Ensure all relevant site records and paperwork is maintained as required in accordance with company procedures Carry out briefings on relevant safety bulletins/alerts and toolbox talks. Record the briefings in accordance with company procedures Establish and maintain effective, clear communications with the signaller, PICOP and COSS’s / SWL’s Undertake any other sentinel competent duties if qualified as required Key Competencies Track competences relevant to role (SWL2, ES, Protection Controller, SWL1, COSS, IWA, Points Operator, Level Crossing Attendant) Safe System of Work Planner (Desirable) Minimum of 5 years experience as an Engineering Supervisor Good communication skills at all levels Good IT skills (specifically MS Office) Through knowledge of the rule book & railway operating rules Ability to lead/direct and motivate staff. Hold full UK driving licence Specific Health, Safety and Environmental Responsibilities: Follow the good examples set by the Project Manager in creating a robust Health and Safety culture within the project Set an example by their own actions and activities Set targets and objectives for Health and Safety and environmental for their direct staff, use the staff dialogues process for managing Health and Safety and environmental objectives Ensure that directed staff are capable and competent to undertake the tasks allocated to them Ensure effective implementation of the Siemens Project Health & Safety Plan, Project Quality Plan and Project Environmental Plan on projects responsible for and in compliance with PCL requirements Responsibility for undertaking the role of Responsible Manager for RIPs activities where the Project Manager requires. This includes ensuring the RIPs plans are suitable for the work, nominating competent safety critical personal to safely execute the works, monitoring the requirements of the RIPs plans and undertaking verification checks on plans to ensure compliance and effectiveness. Communicate and encourage feedback on H &S and environmental issues Undertake appropriate disciplinary action for any breach of Health and Safety Investigate accidents or incidents to determine basic causes, feedback information both up and down the organisation Ensure adequate Health and Safety equipment is to hand and is used by employees Undertake Health and Safety tours or inspections; act where deficiencies are observed When unable to rectify or remedy unsafe situations either stop work if the risk is too high and/or report the deficiency (and involve HSQE) to the Project Manager for action Promote and use the business procedures to control and manage work Understand the H & S and environment risks involved in any activity they control and ensure any mitigation designated to control that risk are effectively operated/implemented Be prepared and be competent to manage any for-seen emergency situations Become involved in any work safe problem and help resolve that problem Maintain their competence to manage their own Health and Safety and environmental responsibilities and contribute to their directs competence to manage their Health and Safety and environmental responsibilities Additional Requirements / Comments: May be required to travel and lodge away from home depot to meet operational needs of the business Comply with all fatigue management legislation About us We’re Siemens.
