Job Overview:
To lead safety initiatives in the plant and ensure compliance with legislative and corporate standards. Implements various occupational safety and health activities in the organization. Complies with health and safety regulations. Investigates potential risks, accidents and injuries.
 
Responsibilities:
- Maintains compliance with organizational, federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to safety
- Review plans and specifications for new machinery and equipment to make sure they meet safety requirements.
- New equipment safety commissioning.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of various industrial control mechanisms.
- Develop Job Safety Analysis and recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employee exposure to hazards
- Conduct safety training on new machinery and equipment, inspections and audits
- Investigate industrial accidents, injuries and determine causes and preventive measures.
- Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with company and statutory regulations
- Coordinates training activities for employees, emergency medical management, and first responder fire and spill response team
- Plans programs to educate employees in work safe practices, and maintains safety files and records, including OSHA logs. Ensures the compliance of laboratories and other workspaces with safety standards and keeps records of the location of safety equipment.
- Develop & maintain accurate recordkeeping systems and perform timely reporting. 
- May provide guidance to less senior team members
- Participate in and support audits
- Will perform other duties as assigned

- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) or the equivalent combination of education and or experience.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) desired.
- 5 + years’ safety engineering experience at a large manufacturing site desired.  Automotive manufacturing experience a plus.
- Experience in robot commissioning, safety risk assessments and associated safety training.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements that apply to facilities management
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Experienced with robotics safety, functional safety, safeguarding and human collaboration (ANSI /RIA R15.06 and ISO / TS 15066.
- Ability to work with tight deadlines, work independently and to organize work on multiple projects to include working with vendors and contractors.
- Good interpersonal skills required for working with regulatory agencies and the community.
- Critical thinking; Observational skills; Technical capacity, Problem solving / analysis
- Database design and tracking

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is a plant in Ladson, South Carolina that produces Sprinter vans for the U.S. and Canadian market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner. The midsize Mercedes-Benz Metris vans are also reassembled at this location.
 
Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC invested 500 million U.S. dollars in the construction of a new Sprinter production plant in addition to an expansion of the previous assembly operations. In September 2018, MBV officially opened its new plant, located next to existing operations in the North Charleston area. The MBV facility will provide up to 1,300 jobs by the end of the decade and is expected to create at least 600 additional jobs in the region through its suppliers.
 
More than 130,000 Sprinters have been assembled in North Charleston and delivered to destinations in the U.S. since 2006. The U.S. is now the second largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany.
