BSI EHS Services and Solutions is hiring a Safety Specialist to support the Safety Health and Environment (SHE) department at a client site in Frederick, MD. This is a full-time position with benefits, located at a biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility. 

Job Duties:

• Serve as safety leader to the animal barrier facility through utilization of a behavior-based safety program. This includes initiating and leading regularly scheduled Governance safety meetings with senior management to move beyond safety compliance to proactive identification of hazards and risks.
• Identify and manage occupational hazards and environmental risks, lead incident investigations, conduct risk assessments, and create/document corrective and preventative actions to ensure a safe workplace.
• Manage Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) for all research, development, and production labs.
• Assist with IACUC and laboratory inspections; observe, document, and investigate unsafe work conditions. Work with laboratory personnel to develop JHAs and determine project-specific hazards and risks.
• Occasionally conduct lab safety training for newly hired employees and scientists needing yearly recertification.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in scientific or EHS related field
• 1-3 years experience with lab safety, animal safety, or research
• Prior experience with risk assessment and accident investigations required
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Strong computer skills
