Job Description

The Safety and Occupational Health Systems Specialist:

  • Leads the planning, implementation and maintenance of safety and medical services workplace technology-based systems including but not limited to safety systems, contractor tracking system, safety observations systems, and medical management systems for Plant Spartanburg.
  • Executes complex operational and technical projects and ensures long-term requirements of safety and medical management systems and planning.
  • Acts as an interface with internal and external stakeholders to build and maintain technology-based safety and medical management IT systems.
  • Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to identify, deploy and maintain effective health and safety IT management systems for Plant Spartanburg.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert and primary point of contact for all Health & Safety IT topics.
  • Responds to all IT technical inquiries related to planning, implementation, maintenance, and compliance of all plant safety and medical management IT systems.
  • Leads escalation management of unresolved singular incidents or service requests.
  • Aligns standard operating procedures with the global network of workplace systems and BMW Group strategy.
  • Creates process instructions to standardize end user knowledge of safety and medical management systems in order to minimize risk of operational failure.
  • Ensures vendor contract fulfillment for operational projects and coordinates non-standard requests (open issues, tickets, etc.).
  • Organizes physical access management for providers in relevant IT applications.
  • Serves as an IT project manager for small to medium sized projects, oversees resources assigned, conducts status meetings, and effectively communicates the project status to stakeholders.
  • Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Monitors performance to ensure service level agreements (SLA) are met and all processes are followed as necessary.
  • Represents BMW MC to external specialist agencies (e.g. software companies, telecom providers).
  • Coordinates commissioning and decommissioning of safety and medical management IT systems in conjunction with business partners.
  • Develops and conducts training courses related to health and safety IT systems.
  • Ensures the sustainability and operational status of plant safety and medical technology systems.
  • Creates and develops dashboards and reports to monitor and communicate performance of safety and medical management systems.
  • Recognizes opportunities and regularly leverages emerging technology to enhance process effectiveness.
  • Understands and models VPS (Value Added Production System) Principles and concepts of Standard Work and Problem Solving.
  • Adheres to 5S and Safety Standards and Principles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Information Technology, or related field OR the equivalent of 4 years experience with IT systems or occupational health and safety.
  • 5+ years experience with data management systems, preferably including experience in occupational safety and health management.
  • 5+ years of project management and vendor relations experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with Employee Health & Safety toolsets (ProcessMAP or similar), SAP ECC, SAP Success Factors, ISNetworld, and report writing systems (Cognos or similar) (preferred).
  • 5+ years of oral and written IT communication techniques and report development.
  • 3+ years knowledge of end-to-end incident and problem management to support the business.
  • 3+ years knowledge of working with external service providers.
  • 3+ years of problem solving and analytical skills.
  • 3+ years skilled in communicating ideas in technical and user-friendly terminology.
  • 3+ years of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • 3+ years of knowledge in various business processes for multiple business units.
  • 3+ years of detailed knowledge of occupational health and safety recordkeeping requirements.
  • 1+ years of knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint.
  • 1+ years of knowledge of BMW Group Incident Management Tools (Resolve IT preferred).
  • 1+ years of knowledge of BMW IT Component Lifecycle management (preferred).
  • 1+ years of knowledge of Information Technology Process Quality Model (AGILE Methodologies preferred).
