Sales Director, Target is responsible for achieving profitable sales growth across Target for the Mars Wrigley Confectionary business. The role is expected to assemble and lead a high performing team to achieve company, marketplace/category, annual business planning and P&L objectives with customers. This role is critical to building and sustaining extraordinary customer relationships at all level, especially senior levels. This role will collaborate with internal and external partners to influence and achieve these objectives. Additionally, this role is responsible for leading the site engagement of The Mars Incorporated office located in Minneapolis, MN. This role reports to the Vice President of U.S. Grocery and is part of the Field Sales Organization.
What Are We Looking For:
12 years of experience in CPG sales
Experience working at a HQ as a technical leader
Lead Key Account Management experience (Large & Small)
Experience developing direct reports
Experience managing P&Ls
Experience in Customer Marketing
Broker Management experience
The knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program in a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Ability to travel 40% of the time
Successful completion of a drug and background screen
A valid driver's license and clean driving record are required.
What Would Be Your Responsibilities:
This role is responsible for leading the translation and cascading of the company business strategies/priorities/objectives into customer’s go-to-market strategy and action plans to include:
• Leading new thinking and approaches to annual account business planning that delivers continual growth, customer satisfaction, return on investment and solutions for customer
• Bringing analytical discipline, innovation and creativity to annual account business planning/ product launches/daily operations to proactively and consistently exceed expectations of customer
Responsible to direct full execution of the channels strategies/priorities/objectives to include:
• Customer(s) have solutions for profitable sales growth for products/assortment, placement and everyday shelving and merchandising, pricing, promotion and seasonal merchandising that are created and executed to achieve customer objectives, category leadership and company objectives
• Customer(s) are influenced to implement solutions through fact based presentations that deliver results that are beneficial for both customer and company; role model customer management
• Lead new product launches with timely and effective execution to maximize marketplace impact
• Oversee all customer solutions and ensure analytics in place for both proactive and reactive actions for continual improvement for both customer and company; deliver accurate and timely forecast/enable operational excellence
• Leverage insights of team members, data (data analyses, trends, etc.) and resources (internal sales, Category Development, etc.) to continually bring new growth ideas to customer and company; incorporate in all customer solutions
• Administer customer trade funds that complies with internal and external requirements; identify and ready all necessary resources while effectively managing budget
Responsible for people management on the customer team to include –
• Planning talent needs, recruiting, hiring and selecting talent
• Assessing potential and co-creating development plans with individual reports; providing coaching, championing to realize individual potential and fulfill development plan
• Developing talent and retaining talent, have talent ready for customer team, sales organization
• Setting expectations and overseeing the achievement of individual objectives, monitoring performance and providing on-going feedback
• Coaching and directing for optimal performance and achievement of company, customer team and individual objectives
• Directing priorities and providing solutions to achieve/exceed company, customer team and individual objectives
• Sponsoring and mentoring talent throughout sales organization
Responsible for team building and management of not only direct reports but other customer team members to include –
• Setting tone, motivation, common purpose and specific expectations for direct reports and their reports to ensure success in the achievement of company and business goals
• Being a critical communication link between direct reports/their reports and company management by disseminating company information and direction to the team in a timely, actionable manner
• Being a critical communication link between direct report/their reports and company to provide team feedback on such areas as customer performance, issues, learning/observations/analysis, problems and deliver recommended solutions
• Deploying resources wisely, timely and creatively
