Sanitation/Micro-Risk Manager      

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that the manufacturing areas and the general office area remain clean and free of microbiological contamination and pest infestation. 

This position manages the sanitation of the facility, including supervision sanitation team and the temporary associate cleaning crews, to ensure the factory continuously meets or exceeds established guidelines and standards. 

This role is responsible for implementing site and corporate Food Safety & Sanitation initiatives, specifically for developing the Sanitation and Pest Control Programs that support the existing and expanding Food Safety requirements.  The Sanitation Manager will facilitate teams in his/her area of responsibility and conduct or coordinate the necessary training for both the individual associates and the team.  This manager will implement and enforce established policy and strategy in line with HACCP, CFIA, FDA and Mars QMP Standards. The Sanitation Manager will support necessary audits to maintain required Food Safety Certifications.

 

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering, or related field
  • 5 years’ experience in manufacturing setting
  • 3 years of managerial experience with a demonstrated ability and desire to work with people, both individually as well as in teams.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing procedures to include but not limited to receiving commodities, all aspects of processing, packaging, and warehouse operations.  Successful candidate will possess an excellent working knowledge of all production equipment, site layout, sanitation tool use and preventive maintenance.
  • Broad understanding of major functions within the plant and the ability to work directly with individuals at all levels and functions.

 

What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Manage the efforts of the sanitation team that supports efficient conversion of materials into quality products in a safe, secure and sanitary manner within the product design specifications.
  • Recommend and implement changes in methods, equipment, systems and organization, as needed, to assure that the objectives of sanitation and pest control are met.
  • Maintain a high performing team environment, able to resolve associate relations issues. Responsible for hiring, training, retraining, developing and motivating the Sanitation associates. Create a self-managed team that is able to work with a minimum degree of guidance  
  • With the general guidance of the Q&FS Manager, establish area performance standards and goals, and measure, control, take corrective action and report results as appropriate.
  • Utilize the technical resources on shift for the preventive maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of equipment problems, with the objective of effectively using these resources to achieve desired performance levels.
  • Ensure that open communications are established and that opportunities to broaden the scope and responsibility of the Sanitation associates are undertaken.
  • Collaborate with Regional Teams to develop/adopt best practices.
  • Advise the Q&FS Manager when opportunities exist for moving the area forward in technological change, along with development and implementing the improvements
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement strategies that will help the area perform more effectively in the near term and long term.
  • Evaluate associate performance and development, in conjunction with associate's plans, to challenge their potential. Provide growth and development opportunities for associates to fill internal staffing needs.
  • Keep abreast of the managerial and technical competencies, both within and outside Royal Canin
  • Partner with 3rd party suppliers for cleaning equipment cleaning materials and pest control services
  • Monitor, update Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and participate in audits.
  • Track and trend critical sanitation metrics (micro swabs ATP swabs, pre op deficiencies) to measure performance and achieve improvements while maintaining all standards.
  • Support and promote the company’s health and safety program, maintain a safe working environment and ensure continued compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and JHSC recommendations.
