Scholarly Communication Librarian

Qualification & Responsibility

General Description:

Reporting to the team leader of Academic Liaison and Reference Division of the Library, Scholarly Communication Librarian will provide strategic leadership and direction for the Library’s systematic scholarly communication services. By designing new services, outreach approaches as well as related educational materials and programmes, the librarian will promote scholarly communication, open access, copyrights, etc., and assist academic staff and PGR students in scholarly communication endeavors. Collaborating with other Academic Liaison and Reference Librarians and relevant parties on campus, the incumbent will also undertake the academic liaison duties and participate in the management of the University’s institutional repository.

Main Responsibility and Accountability:

1. Scholarly communication service duties

? To develop and implement a scholarly communication strategic plan;

? To maintain current knowledge of the trends and issues and awareness of changes in the scholarly communication field;

? To provide outreach to academic staff and PGR students in collaboration with Academic Liaison and Reference Librarians, and support their scholarly communication activities;

? To investigate topics of data curation and management, and provide related service;

? To develop and implement instructional courses and educational programmes to increase awareness of scholarly communication topics and themes;

? To organize and coordinate the Library’s existing scholarly communication events including Open Access Week, and designs new marketing programmes;

? To manage the institutional repository (IR) and expand its holdings in collaborate with the administrator of the IR;

? To provide copyright service to all levels of library users;

? To engage with the scholarly communities both on and off campus dynamically, and participate in scholarly communication initiatives.

2. Academic liaison and reference duties

? To serves as the primary liaison to a group of academic departments appropriate to the incumbent’s academic background;

? To deal with the requests from academic departments in regard to library affairs for their teaching and research;

? To keep both academic departments and the Library updated of the changes and progress in each side;

? To support the collection development for academic departments;

? To provide reference services to a diverse population of library users;

? To initiate and/or participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Position Qualification Requirement:

Qualifications:

? Master’s degree in Library or Information Science or related discipline with subject expertise and professional library education/experience combined;

? Experience working in an academic library with a role related to scholarly communication;

? Familiarity with scholarly communication themes, topics and current trends;

? Experience providing outreach programmes and communicating with faculty and researchers;

? Knowledge of copyright and related issues;

? Flexibility and ability to work both independently and collaboratively with team members, library colleagues and other relevant groups both on and off campus;

? Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills in both English and Chinese;

? Understanding of the nature, philosophy and operation of a joint venture research-led university.

Preferred Qualifications:

? Experience in data curation and management;

? Experience delivering educational courses or trainings;

? Experience in one or more of the following areas of library service: collections, instructional course development, reference service, etc.
