HK$56,618 to HK$131,423 (HGPS Point 25 to 44) per month including Monthly Allowance [See Remarks item 2]

 

Key Responsibilities

The Scientific Officer (Medical) shall be responsible to the Chief of Service in performing the following duties:

 

Primary Duties

1. Assist COS and DM to lead the team for Master Redevelopment Project of KWH and commissioning of the new KWH laboratory.

2. Contribute to new test development in Microbiology and Molecular laboratory services.

3. Test development and research.

4. Quality assurance.

5. In-house training for technical staff and junior Medical and Health Officers.

6. Contribute to service provision and signing out of laboratory reports in Microbiology and Molecular laboratory test services.

 

Complementary and Supportive Duties

1. Participate in the management of laboratory.

2. Assess new equipment and technology which may be applied to HA.

3. Advise clinicians on appropriate tests to perform and interpretation of results.

 

Entry Requirements

Either one of the following qualifications:

1. (a) A Master’s degree in clinical science subject from a local university or equivalent.

(b) A degree in an appropriate subject related to the sub-specialties in Pathology from a local university or equivalent and 2 years’ experience.

 

Preferred Attributes / Exposure

  1. Experience in procurement and evaluation of new test and equipment.
  2. Experience in Microbiology test and service development.
  3. With a Master’s degree in Microbiology or Molecular Pathology from a local university or equivalent.
  4. With a Bachelor degree in Biological Science or Molecular Pathology from a local university or equivalent and 2 years’ experience.
  5. Liaison skills for clinical problems and analytical sciences.
  6. Creativity.
  7. Commitment to patient care.
  8. Leadership.
  9. Interpersonal skill.

Remarks

For HA Serving Staff

  1. The selected candidate will be offered either contract or fixed term appointment for a period of 1 - 3 year(s) depending on his/her existing employment terms (or up to 31 March 2022 if being selected for a time-limited post). Serving contract employee will be offered contract employment with up to 15% total basic salary (after deducting the contribution of Mandatory Provident Fund by Hospital Authority) as end-of-contract gratuity, subject to satisfactory completion of the contract. Serving permanent employee will be offered a fixed term appointment after which the employee may be reverted back to his/ her former substantive rank.
  2. The offer of salary and allowance (Cash Allowance, Fixed-flexi Allowance or Monthly Allowance) for serving employees upon changes in appointment will be determined based on the remuneration package/ employment terms of the staff concerned and prevailing policies.

  1. Appointment will be on contract terms for a period of 1 - 3 year(s) depending on his/her existing employment terms (or up to 31 March 2022 if being selected for a time-limited post). Up to 15% of total basic salary (after deducting the contribution of Mandatory Provident Fund by Hospital Authority) as end-of-contract gratuity may be offered upon completion of contract with satisfactory performance.
  2. Retiring / retired HA staff who wish to continue working for HA after their normal retirement may also apply. If selected, the terms and conditions of employment will be offered in accordance with prevailing policies of the Retired and Rehire Mechanism of HA.

  2. May be required to work shifts and irregular hours as well as to perform on-call duties.
  3. May be required to work in another work location to meet service needs of the HA.
