Job Description

UNIVERSITY RESEARCH FACILITY IN CHEMICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS (UCEA) 

Scientific Officer (Specialized in Elemental Analysis) (Ref. 20052810-IE) 

Duties 

The appointee will be required to: 

(a) manage the general operations and safety of UCEA, and provide technical support to its stakeholders; 

(b) be responsible for the day-to-day operation, monitoring and maintenance of the Multi-Collector-ICP-MS, XRF, HT-TGA, and auxiliary equipment; 

(c) instruct users on the usage of equipment for routine analyses, and take an active part in the development of analytical methods and protocols; 

(d) perform sample pretreatment, analyses and maintenance related to elemental analysis, especially on the applications of Multi-Collector-ICP-MS; 

(e) assist teaching staff to conduct laboratory sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students; 

(f) liaise with different parties of the University and external organizations; and 

(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of UCEA or his delegates. 

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

(a) possess at least a master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Instrumental Analysis, Environmental Science, or related disciplines; 

(b) have five years’ relevant experience, including at least three years’ post-qualification experience; 

(c) be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English, and preferably with fluency in Chinese including Putonghua and Cantonese; and 

(d) have strong analytical skills, good interpersonal and communication skills. 

Preference will be given to those who have a PhD degree in the above-stated disciplines, and with research and/or work experience with Multi-Collector-ICP-MS, XRF and HT-TGA in laboratories of tertiary institutions.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service 

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
