YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Scientist I, are to: 

• Assume supervisory responsibilities as needed and manage work forces, prioritize and coordinate work within large teams;
• Have primary or shared project responsibilities supporting and conducting research projects, trait introgression and nursery deliverables;
• Solve complex problems, lead workflow optimization and method validation;
• Analyze data and create reports and adhere to established protocols;
• Achieve commitment to safety and adherence to best practices and compliance;
• Be accountable for work in multiple platforms/process areas;
• Communicate and interpret the results of experiments, production Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), cost/benefit analysis and lab related issues to partners and key stakeholders;
• Manage environmental conditions using control software and support facility upgrades and maintenance as needed;
• Have the ability to obtain State Pesticide Applicators license;
• Be willing to be on call, work rotating weekends and holidays.

Required Qualifications:

• B.S. with at least five years of relevant experience or M.S. with at least two years of relevant experience or Ph.D. with at least one year of relevant experience;
• Strong horticultural production acumen with the ability to independently design experiments and analyze data;
• Greenhouse, growth chamber or related experience with aptitude for identifying, communicating, tracking and troubleshooting plant health variables;
• Proficiency with data analysis and visualization software;
• Experience with ISO/Quality Management Systems and defining and using Key Performance Indicators to measure lab and workflow health.
