Job Description

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Scientist I-Entomology, are to: 

 

  • Motivate and manage contingent workforce, planning daily, weekly and monthly tasks and maintenance to support rearing of multiple sensitive and specialty insect colonies;
  • Coordinate work across peers and contingent workforce to ensure delivery of production goals;
  • Be accountable for cross-functional work and interfacing with various insectary partners to forecast demand and optimize insect delivery based on timing, capacity and priority;
  • Solve complex problems requiring original thinking and deductive reasoning and the application of scientific principles to the design and interpretation of scientific experiments;
  • Lead rearing workflow optimization and method validation projects using multiple data sources;
  • Use specialized knowledge, the broad application of scientific principles, current literature and professional networks when identifying and implementing process improvements;
  • Prepare and communicate reports with large data sets for supervisor review, under time constraints, across multiple projects including experimental results, production KPIs, cost/benefit analysis and lab related issues;
  • Prioritize and coordinate work within a team and provides training to contingent workforce, maintaining detailed records and required documentation;
  • Comply with Biosafety/Stewardship regulations following Bayer’s policies and guidelines, including Quality Management System;
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols and best practices;
  • Assist team members in rearing activities or planning and executing assays when necessary;
  • Thrive on meeting challenges, insists on high quality deliverables, demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and possesses the ability to build productive internal and external relationships;
  • Take initiative in keeping current with literature in areas of assignment and in areas of professional interest.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Biology, Entomology or related areas with at least five years of relevant experience;
  • Master’s degree in Agronomy, Biology, Entomology or related areas and at least two years of relevant experience;
  • Strong entomology, insect rearing or related acumen with the ability to design experiments and interpret data;
  • Experience with ISO/Quality Management Systems and defining/using Key Performance Indicators to measure lab and workflow health;
  • Experience working under USDA PPQ permitted conditions;
  • Experience conducting field testing in corn, soy, and/or cotton;
  • Proficiency working with computers and Microsoft Office;
  • Experience working effectively in a team environment;
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
