Oncology is a key therapeutic area for AbbVie, with a portfolio consisting of three marketed products — Imbruvica, Venclexta, and Empliciti — and a pipeline containing multiple promising new molecules that are being studied in nearly 200 clinical trials in 19 different types of cancer. AbbVie is expanding its oncology hub on the West Coast, with three sites in the San Francisco Bay Area (Redwood City, South San Francisco, and Sunnyvale) focused on the discovery and development of novel oncology therapies. More than 1,000 AbbVie scientists, clinicians, and product developers with strong entrepreneurial roots work across these three sites. They combine their expertise in immuno-oncology, stem cells, and cell-signaling with their knowledge of bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and covalent-inhibitor technologies to discover and develop novel cancer treatments. This position is based at AbbVie’s South San Francisco, CA location. We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a broad understanding and experience in tumor cell biology, with a profound capability of understanding molecular mechanisms of driver oncogenes and their translatability into successful areas of cancer therapy. The successful candidate will be expected to conceive and execute novel scientific approaches to achieve R&D project goals in a timely manner and clearly communicate the scientific rationale, methodology and results in written and oral formats. Responsibilities Designing and executing experiments to inform cancer target biology using a variety of cellular/molecular and functional genomics approaches, including CRISPR-mediated cell line engineering, analysis of signaling pathway and characterization of cell death mechanism(s) Utilizing knockdown, knockout, knockin and over-expression of protein for target validation Identifying and validating pharmacodynamic readouts for novel oncology targets Collect, analyze, and summarize data for presentations, reports, publications, and patents Maintain an up-to-date understanding of new technologies and relevant scientific advances in tumor dependencies and its roles in cancer from literature and scientific meetings Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with typically 5 years of relevant experience or MS with 2 years of experience either in academic or industry setting Proven track record that demonstrates the ability to design, execute and interpret experiments Hands on experience in lentiviral production and transduction, stable cell line development and CRISPS-cased gene editing Proficient in nucleic acid extraction/purification, qRT-PCR, western blotting/WES, ELISA/MSD, flow cytometry, viability assays and compound screening and other cell and molecular biology techniques Experience with bioinformatic analysis of multi-OMICS data is preferred Excellent knowledge in cell biology models to elucidate the mechanism of action of novel oncology targets Knowledge of current technological advancements/trends in areas of oncology research Ability to manage more than one project at any given time and to work successfully in a cross-functional and highly collaborative team environment Good communication, both speech and writing, to a variety of audiences Experience with working in a fast-paced environment and ability to meet expected deadlines Significant Work Activities N/A Travel No Job Type Experienced Schedule Full-time Job Level Code IC Equal Employment Opportunity At AbbVie, we value bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to develop new and innovative solutions for patients.
