Oncology is a key therapeutic area for AbbVie, with a portfolio consisting of three marketed products — Imbruvica, Venclexta, and Empliciti — and a pipeline containing multiple promising new molecules that are being studied in nearly 200 clinical trials in 19 different types of cancer. AbbVie is expanding its oncology hub on the West Coast focusing on the discovery and development of novel oncology therapies. More than 1,000 AbbVie scientists, clinicians, and product developers with strong entrepreneurial roots work across these three sites. They combine their expertise in immuno-oncology, stem cells, and cell-signaling with their knowledge of bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and covalent-inhibitor technologies to discover and develop novel cancer treatments. This position is based at AbbVie’s new South San Francisco, CA location. We are looking for a Scientist I/II with experience executing in vivo pharmacology studies in various mouse models of cancer. The main role will involve conducting in vivo research studies including tumor implantation, data collection, analyses and presentation, and other ex vivo lab work to support the in vivo needs of projects. Additionally, the candidate will have the opportunity to manage the efficacy operations pipeline by coordinating study designs, communicating instructions to team, managing timelines, and study quality. RESPONSIBILITIES Execute, monitor, and interpret in vivo studies involving mouse models of cancer (e.g., CDX, PDX, disseminated and syngeneic models, etc.) Evaluate novel cancer therapeutics in vivo through studies such as efficacy, PK, and tolerability Assist in coordinating study designs and timelines/resources for in vivo efficacy operations Collect in vivo (tumor and weight measurements) data and samples (blood, tissues). Prepare compound formulations and dose animals via various administration routes Analyze and report data regularly at team meetings Undertake cell culture for implanting in in vivo studies Qualifications Scientist I: Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent education with 5+ years of experience or Master’s Degree or equivalent education with 2+ years of experience. Scientist II: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education with 7+ years of experience, or Master’s Degree or equivalent education with 5+ years of experience. For both levels: Strong technical expertise in in vivo experimentation, including health monitoring, tumor implantation, tumor measurements, dosing via IP, IV, SC, PO routes, and blood/tissue collection Experience with mouse models of cancer, including CDX (cell line derived) and/or PDX (patient derived) xenograft models preferred AALAS certification is preferred but not required Strong laboratory, record keeping, data analysis, and critical thinking skills Experience with cell culture is a plus but not required Experience with Microsoft Office is a plus but not required Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time-management skills enabling efficiency and independence A motivated and results-focused team player willing to help other team members and have schedule flexibility Significant Work Activities N/A Travel No Job Type Experienced Schedule Full-time Job Level Code IC Equal Employment Opportunity At AbbVie, we value bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to develop new and innovative solutions for patients.
