BD Diagnostic Systems is seeking a Scientist II to join our R&D Microbiology team. This position plays an active role, in developing, qualifying and supporting diagnostic products for use in the clinical microbiology laboratory.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Works under the general direction of a Sr. Scientist, Staff Scientist or R&D Manager.
• Works primarily as part of a team to schedule, set up and perform a variety of laboratory experiments.
• Accurately records experimental results and may present those results to other R&D team members.
• Drafts and reviews appropriate documentation as needed.
• Partners with R&D colleagues, and associates from other departments, on project tasks, platform support, and other activities when required.
• Assists in technical problem resolution as appropriate.
• Strives to remain current in the field and related technology developments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, medical technology or a related field required (Master’s degree desired)
• Minimum of 2 years relevant academic, clinical, or industry lab work experience
• Possesses intermediate level of knowledge / understanding of clinical microbiology as well as a thorough understanding of MIC and disc diffusion breakpoints and reporting rules.
• Strong laboratory skills - particularly aseptic technique, micro-pipetting, handling pathogenic organisms, and related activities.
• Proficiency with commercial computer software applications (intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access desired)
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Technical writing experience (validation protocols, white papers, etc.) is desirable.
• Experience in product testing and validation studies is highly desirable
• Action-oriented team player that works well with others.
• Active learner who seeks to grow their knowledge and skill set.
