Location and Division Specifics
The Cell & Gene Therapy R&D team focuses on developing and improving products and workflows to meet customers’ needs.  Working together with R&D teams from other disciplines ensures an energetic and fast paced environment to drive collaboration and scientific curiosity.
 
How will you make an impact?
This position requires a talented and highly motivated scientist to support the Cell & Gene Therapy R&D team. The role will focus on the optimization and genetic engineering of t-cells, NK cells and/or hematopoietic stem cells using CRISPR gene editing tools and new delivery technology platforms.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in cell therapy process development. They will also be able to independently troubleshoot unexpected outcomes. Additionally, it is expected that this individual will interact with other R&D scientists and cross-functional project team members to support the development of new products for the cell therapy workflow.
 
What will you do?
  • Critically design, plan and independently execute experiments
  • Optimize protocols for genetic modification of immune and stem cells with CRISPR based tools
  • Setup and perform complex flow cytometry characterization assays to identify and profile specific cell populations
  • Maintain detailed, organized notebook and experiment write-ups that can be quickly referenced and referred to
  • Utilize Design of Experiment to promptly analyze assay results and creatively prepare presentations to communicate scientific findings, conclusions and next steps
  • Actively collaborate with team members and other functional groups to identify solutions and quickly overcome setbacks
 
How will you get here?
Education /Experience:
  • PhD in cellular biology, immunology or other relevant discipline with 1 years industry experience, or
  • M.S. degree in relevant discipline with 3 years of industry experience
  • 5+ years of experience with primary mammalian cell culture
  • 3+ years of experience with flow cytometry, specifically for the identification and characterization of immune cell populations
  • 2+ years of experience with non-viral genetic engineering of mammalian cells
 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities  
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency, strong drive and can-do attitude to take on new tasks with initiative and intensity
  • Aseptic cell culture of primary cells and/or immune cell experience is required; large scale culture experience is preferred
  • Experience with automated isolation/purification of various primary blood cell types
  • CRISPR based assay development for both knock-out and knock-in optimization
  • Experience with Attune NxT Flow Cytometer is preferred but not required
  • Ability to setup and utilize semi or fully automated liquid handling platforms is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly developed presentation skills to communicate results and needs to both internal and external team members
