Job Description
Position Summary:
Leads projects in support of development of new products and evaluation of new technology for protein preparation, purification, and analysis.
- Participates in the design and execution of research and development projects for cell lysis, protein purification, protein clean-up, and protein analysis.
- Serves as Technical Leader on R&D project teams to develop reagents, assays, and kits that support membrane protein research and structural studies.
- Collaborates with biologists and chemists to develop novel tools to purify recombinant and endogenous proteins from cells and tissue.
- Maintains an in-depth knowledge of protein purification tools and strategies, membrane protein solubilization techniques, and protein interactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designs and performs laboratory experiments independently
- Serves as Technical Leader on R&D projects of increasing complexity and number
- Gives effective scientific presentations
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of relevant fields and techniques
- Collaborates with technical and commercial partners
- Independently writes technical methods for production, testing, and use of new products
- Attends scientific conferences and presents work through posters and publications
- Supports other departments such as manufacturing, technical service, and ASL by providing scientific guidance
- Contributes well considered ideas for new products and improvements to procedures
- Presents proposals and project updates to the NPC Steering committee
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Has a strong knowledge of protein biochemistry, regulation, cell biology and protein interaction technology. Knowledge and experience with membrane proteins is highly preferred.
- Experience in protein expression and purification, cell lysis and other sample preparation techniques.
- Follows recent developments in the protein biochemistry field and is aware of market trends and competitors.
- Solves problems in complicated situations through the application and integration of analytical skills, creativity and judgment
- Demonstrates leadership and team building skills.
- Adapts communication to accommodate audience diversity
- Experience in product development and/or project management is highly desirable.
- Sets broad example for others through thoroughness, accuracy, and commitment.
- PhD, MS degree and 3+ years of experience, or BS degree and 5+ years of experience
