Job Description

Position Summary:

Leads projects in support of development of new products and evaluation of new technology for protein preparation, purification, and analysis.

  • Participates in the design and execution of research and development projects for cell lysis, protein purification, protein clean-up, and protein analysis.
  • Serves as Technical Leader on R&D project teams to develop reagents, assays, and kits that support membrane protein research and structural studies.
  • Collaborates with biologists and chemists to develop novel tools to purify recombinant and endogenous proteins from cells and tissue.
  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of protein purification tools and strategies, membrane protein solubilization techniques, and protein interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designs and performs laboratory experiments independently
  • Serves as Technical Leader on R&D projects of increasing complexity and number
  • Gives effective scientific presentations
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of relevant fields and techniques
  • Collaborates with technical and commercial partners
  • Independently writes technical methods for production, testing, and use of new products
  • Attends scientific conferences and presents work through posters and publications
  • Supports other departments such as manufacturing, technical service, and ASL by providing scientific guidance
  • Contributes well considered ideas for new products and improvements to procedures
  • Presents proposals and project updates to the NPC Steering committee
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Has a strong knowledge of protein biochemistry, regulation, cell biology and protein interaction technology. Knowledge and experience with membrane proteins is highly preferred.
  • Experience in protein expression and purification, cell lysis and other sample preparation techniques.
  • Follows recent developments in the protein biochemistry field and is aware of market trends and competitors.
  • Solves problems in complicated situations through the application and integration of analytical skills, creativity and judgment
  • Demonstrates leadership and team building skills.
  • Adapts communication to accommodate audience diversity
  • Experience in product development and/or project management is highly desirable.
  • Sets broad example for others through thoroughness, accuracy, and commitment.
  • PhD, MS degree and 3+ years of experience, or BS degree and 5+ years of experience
