Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will support early discovery of small and large molecule therapeutics and cutting-edge novel modalities.
Amgen’s Therapeutic Discovery organization is seeking a collaborative Scientist to join the Protein Technologies group at our South San Francisco site. Protein Technologies is responsible for designing, planning, and executing on the generation of key enabling reagents. The successful candidate will be responsible for hands-on protein purification and biochemical characterization for a variety of protein classes. The candidate will work closely with other protein biochemists, as well as colleagues in expression and analytics groups within Therapeutic Discovery. The ideal candidate will have broad laboratory training, deep scientific curiosity and a positive approach to working in a team-based research environment along with a track record of creative problem-solving and enthusiasm for taking on difficult research challenges.
Work cross functionally with our therapeutic areas to design, produce and characterize key protein reagents aimed at enabling both small molecule and large molecule discovery projects.
Act as a technical leader to bring innovative approaches to difficult purifications including multi-subunit protein complexes.
Provide scientific results that support the generation of publications and patents; participate in internal and external scientific meetings

Basic Qualifications
Ph.D. in biochemistry, protein engineering or a related subject area and 2+ years of scientific laboratory experience
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. and postdoc from a leading institution or biotechnology company
Consistent track record of academic accomplishments (i.e. peer-reviewed publications or patents)
Knowledge of state-of-the-art protein biochemistry techniques
Proficient with AKTA chromatography hardware and software
Proficient with a range of chromatography methods (affinity, ion-exchange, HIC, SEC)
Experience with conducting and interpreting protein analytics (MS, HPLC, thermostability)
Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and the ability to work well in teams
Desire to be a team player in a cross-functional environment
Ability to thrive and adapt in a dynamic environment
