Amgen’s Therapeutic Discovery organization is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative Scientist to be part of membrane protein efforts in the Protein Technologies group at our Amgen South San Francisco site. Protein Technologies is responsible for designing, planning and executing on the generation of key enabling protein reagents to support discovery of small and large molecule therapeutics and cutting-edge novel modalities.

As a scientist within the Membrane Proteins group, you will be responsible for contributing to high-performing team producing high-quality, fit-for-purpose membrane proteins to support the Amgen pipeline.  You will drive the science through hands-on lab work and implementation of enabling technologies and automation.  You will also contribute to the operational and strategic direction of the group, and participate in collaborations with partner functions such as Antibody Discovery, Discovery Technologies, Molecular Structure and the Research Biology organization.  You will also ideate and work on novel drug discovery targets and pathways.

Well-qualified applicants will have a strong scientific background in membrane protein expression, purification, formulation and analytics, and an interest in technology development in this field.  They will also be adept at working cross-functionally.

The Scientist we seek possesses these qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline OR

• Master's degree and 4 years of relevant experience OR

• Bachelor's degree and 6 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. with 2+ years post-degree experience from a leading institution or biotechnology company

• Deep expertise in membrane protein expression, protein biochemistry, biophysics and analytics

• Structural biology experience in membrane proteins is a strong plus, as is expertise in other difficult protein classes

• Ability to drive innovative science; ideation of novel methods and projects in the membrane protein arena

• Desire to be part of a high-performing team; to participate in team goals and forging productive cross-site collaborations with partner functions

• Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to articulate goals, objectives and results to both the group and to cross-functional teams

• Ability to navigate and collaborate in a fast-paced and multi-disciplinary work environment
