Area of responsibility:

Objecitive for the position:

Conduct scientific work related to identification and characterization of fish pathogens found in Chinese aquaculture farming industry.

Describe area of responsibility and authority:

To be responsible for the scientific work (analysis and reporting of results) conducted with fish pathogens.

Main tasks for the position:

• Participate in the establishment of a functional microbiological laboratory in Suzhou.
• Conduct standard microbiological analytical tests in order to be able to identify microbiological characteristics (phenotype & genotype).
• Write protocols, reports and technical documents in a timely manner for team work progress.
• Apply advanced technical and functional knowledge to the design of experiments/clinical trials for the development of animal vaccines.
• Design, develop, validate and perform assay.
• When appropriate, participate during sampling of bacterial isolates from commercial fish farms in China.
• Once experienced, be willing to become a project leader for vaccine development within fish aquaculture.
• Troubleshoot assay issues.
• Train/supervise junior staffs.
  

Competence and qualification for the position:

Education:

Ph.D./Master degree in Veterinary Medicine/Aquaculture the field of microbiology.

Experience:

• Good knowledge of the Chinese aquaculture industry and academic institutions.
• Experience in microbiological laboratory work and procedures.
• Experience in standard serological characterization techniques of microorganisms (i.e Western blotting; Elisa; agglutination etc).
• Advanced knowledge in the field of microbiology; Veterinary Medicine or Immunology and their application to the development of veterinary vaccines.
• Capability to collate and present study data and to prioritize project task.
• Critical and Logical scientific mind-set.
• Working experience of more than 2-5 years in related field is a plus.
