Our sites now are looking for scientist – natural ingredient/product.

The R&D organization is organized in several research centers. The research sites are concentrated in Basel but also in other parts of Switzerland, France, Germany and China.

The R&D structure has been designed on the three-axis model that includes Resources, Sciences and Program Management. All three parts interact together in cross-functional project teams, which also include other areas outside this model such as regulatory and marketing. The competencies within R&D cover a wide range from chemical and biotechnological process research to formulation and application, efficacy, toxicology and screening of new ingredients.

Research must be highly innovative to identify and develop new leads and cross functional projects in what is a strongly competitive environment. To stay cost competitive a sound understanding of the biotechnology, chemistry and process technology regarding our products and their production routes is crucial. Understanding application and industry needs requires a good assessment of markets and trends. A sound understanding of formulation raw materials, technologies combined with the needs and trends in the related industry are crucial for differentiation.

The scientific positions within R&D start from Associate Scientist right up to Corporate Scientist positions, which require a good theoretical understanding and expertise of competences. Also a good knowledge in applying the theoretical know how in practical work is required.

Technical positions start from an operator right up to Technical Specialist and require hands on experience with good practical usable knowledge of the area of expertise.

DNP offers high quality products to the Animal, Human and Personal Care Market segments. The NIC/RD CN has the responsibility to develop new cost-effective process pathways to existing products, contribute to the development of new nutritional ingredients for the China market, provide supply of chemical entities and natural extracts to DNC Research operations globally and provide technical support to DNP production operations in China.

Job Content

• Maintain specialist knowledge in phytochemistry and related isolation technology or plant cell cultivation in agriculture. Integrate, apply and develop it in order to develop new applicable natural ingredient for nutrition and personal care usage.
• Stay abreast of new developments in the area of expertise and advice on applicability in business group processes.
• Propose and evaluate new ideas and support the initiation of R&D proposals and projects in order to contribute to innovations and new concepts in the area of expertise.
• Execute the agreed research programs / experiments, evaluate it and report the results. Plan and organize execution of research activities in the field of responsibility aligned with Research Manager.
• Participate in assigned R&D project(s), in which the specific area of expertise has to be applied
• Support and contribute registration and patent filing in the field of expertise.
• Establish and maintain an internal and external network in the area of expertise.
• Participate in publishing scientific publications / presentations; participate at scientific conferences and costumer events according to the need of the research activities. Keep up-to date with scientific literature.
• Provide guidance and coaching to operators, technicians, associated scientists.
• Comply with Safety Health Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) and other legal requirements.
• Attend plant buildup, tech transfer and commissioning, implement new process and optimization in current production site or toll manufacturing plant.
  

Development Area

Propose and evaluate new ideas and support the initiation of R&D proposals and projects in order to contribute to innovations and new concepts in the area of expertise.

Qualification

• PhD in phytochemistry or plant cell/tissue cultivation in agriculture. (or equivalent qualification).
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• The holder must be fluent in Mandarin and English. Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
• Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience of modern synthetic methodologies and techniques. Experience in process chemistry and scale up would be an advantage.
• Application of modern analytical instruments to synthetic work is required.
• Experience of study or work abroad would be an advantage.
