In this role you will be responsible for work that is less defined in scope, utilize your understanding and experience to execute business objectives, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Implement / modify related EHS programs and procedures to ensure compliance
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of existing and proposed regulations
- Supervise and assist contractors on related issues
- Modify and implement compliance tracking programs and record keeping systems
- Develop and provide education programs related to specific disciplines
- Provide and determine alternatives for issue resolution
- Provide expert advice, guidance, and direct assistance to ensure site compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, guidelines, and permit requirements
- Utilize six Sigma rigors to evaluate chemical and treatment costs and develop pro-active strategies to minimize hazardous waste and treatment costs, while ensuring treatment efficiency for compliance
- Monitor evaporator, wastewater, and chemical cleaning line equipment performance, to pro-actively identify preventative maintenance required and assurance that the system is operating to it’s maximum capability
- Interface with production operations to review impact of chemical cleaning line chemical changes, with respect to EHS issues (disposal, treatment, exposure)
- Design and implement a change management procedure, to ensure production changes impacts to EHS issues are pro-actively identified and addressed prior to implementation
- Ensure compliance with spill prevention rules and regulations
- Review regulations and collect data as required to ensure air emissions and permitting requirements are addressed
- Perform audit checks on operators with respect to hazardous waste handling, labeling, disposal, manifesting to ensure compliance
- Provide leadership for the complex in the protection of life and property, instruct and train all employees in Fire and Security practices and procedures, identification of compliance vulnerabilities and reporting, and implementation of Fire / Security technologies throughout the site
- Implement Fire / Security technologies throughout the site
- Assist in development of service and maintenance contracts
- Provide technical support to other organizations for the implementation of Fire and Security counter measures
- Ensure compliance with all government regulatory requirements relative to Security and Fire Protection and design and implement emergency response plans
- Ensure that all processes are being continuously improved utilizing total quality management techniques

Liaison with local, state and federal law enforcement and government regulations
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental, chemical or mechanical engineering
- Knowledge of environmental regulations, U.S. EPA, World and Ex-Imp Bank
- Knowledge of fossil fuel fired steam power plants and environmental design requirements
- Prior experience in developing environmental permits (especially air permits) is preferred
- Strong data analysis skills
- Ability to prioritize workload commitments and multi-task
- Strong team player and ability to interact / communicate well with wide variety of functional groups within GE as well as Customers
- Six Sigma training is preferred
- Professional Engineer’s certification is preferred
- Knowledge of air dispersion modeling
- Knowledge of EPA / ISO test methods
- Prior experience in wastewater, solid, or hazardous waste permitting
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
