The Cardiometabolic Disorders (CMD) therapeutic area in Amgen Research is seeking an enthusiastic and capable Senior Associate to join our drug discovery research team in the South San Francisco site. The Senior Associate will be expected to work in the lab under supervision and will develop and perform assays in support of the Amgen drug discovery pipeline. By using a wide range of cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology techniques, the senior associate will work in teams to validate novel drug targets for advancement to the drug discovery pipeline.
Position Responsibilities
Conduct routine plate-based cellular, biochemical and biophysical assays
Execute experimental plans with guidance, keep lab notes timely, and analyze data
Present data internally and communicate effectively with colleagues
Develop and perform in vitro assays with guidance to measure proteins, RNAs, metabolites, enzymatic activities and functionality of potential drug targets
Operate and maintain lab equipment
Basic Qualifications
Master’s degree or Master's degree by June 2020
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years scientific experience
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience with cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology techniques, especially mammalian cell culture technique
Hands-on experience with developing, validating and executing plate-based cell and biochemical assays
Hands-on experience with the plate reader and liquid handling system Previous drug discovery experience is preferred but not necessary
Previous experience working with rodents is preferred but not necessary
Computer literacy, e.g., GraphPad Prism, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
Be pro-active, show a desire to learn new techniques, and adhere to timelines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
