In this vital role, you will be responsible for designing and cloning DNA expression vectors to advance programs in the Biologics portfolio in Therapeutic Discovery. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of innovative molecular biology workflows to support a high-throughput, automated synthetic biology pipeline.

The Protein Engineering and Optimization department is seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate to join our dedicated team in Thousand Oaks, CA. We are a multidisciplinary team in Research with capabilities in protein engineering, cloning, expression, purification, and analysis of therapeutic proteins. This dynamic group is responsible for the engineering, production, assessment, and final selection of large molecule drug candidates that advance to Process Development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and assemble protein expression constructs and expression vectors for diverse protein classes in mammalian expression hosts
  • Troubleshoot DNA cloning protocols to optimize conditions and efficiently deliver cloned constructs
  • Use automated liquid handlers in high throughput cloning workflows
  • Use molecular biology software packages, proprietary LIMS systems, and ELN to track and record work
  • Provide scientific results that support the generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions, and participate in internal and external scientific meetings.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree OR
  • Bachelor’s degree & 2 years of laboratory experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with automated liquid handlers, such as Tecan or LabCyte Echo systems
  • Experience in processing and handling large data sets; scripting or coding skills a major plus
  • Familiarity with antibody and/or bispecific antibody sequence and structure
  • Experience with modern molecular biology techniques such as Golden Gate, Gibson, or Seamless cloning or others
  • Comfort with molecular biology design software such as Geneious, VectorNTI, SnapGene or others
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a cross-functional team environment
