Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role, you are a dedicated, experimental scientist, passionate about Next Generation Sequencing technologies, and focused on pushing the frontier of molecular & synthetic biology to support therapeutic innovation in the service of patients.

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate with expertise in molecular biology and/or NGS to join our Protein Engineering team at Amgen in Thousand Oaks, CA. We are a multidisciplinary group in Research with capabilities in protein engineering, cloning, NGS, expression, purification, and analysis of therapeutic proteins, and we are responsible for the engineering, production, assessment, and final selection of large molecule drug candidates that advance to Process Development.

Responsibilities:

  • Build high-throughput Illumina-based NGS libraries to support NGS pipelines within Therapeutic Discovery.
  • Develop and optimize NGS sequencing and library preparation workflows, primarily for long-read sequencing on Oxford Nanopore instruments (e.g., MinION)
  • Communicate with partner groups to coordinate and track NGS sequencing requests
  • Provide scientific results that support the generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions, and participate in internal and external scientific meetings.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master's degree OR
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A working understanding of Molecular Biology techniques related to DNA cloning, Next-Generation Sequencing, and recombinant protein expression
  • Excellence in molecular biology experimental techniques
  • Hands-on experience in NGS library preparation
  • Experience following extended protocols and tracking experimental flow
  • Sample and reagent management
  • Efficient, timely and clear communication to enable working in teams
