Amgen is seeking a Process Development, Senior Associate with a background in protein purification using liquid handler, TECAN, liquid chromatography (LC), capillary electrophoresis (CE), affinity purification and/or sodium dodecyl sulfate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Under limited supervision, this hands-on laboratory-based position would primarily be responsible for running Product Quality (PQ) assays, for large volumes or high throughput (HT) sample submission for Liquid Chromatography (including Size Exclusion, HILIC, Reverse Phase, and affinity) within a set turnaround time to meet client needs.

The Senior Associate will be an integral member of a dynamic team, collaborating with research scientists at multiple Amgen sites, and working closely with groups in other functional areas. This position reports to the Associate Scientist, Process Development within Pre-Pivotal AS, and the role will be based out of Amgen's Headquarters in Thousand Oaks, California.

Job responsibilities for this role include the following:

  • Test samples using analytical tools, such as affinity purification, LC and CE techniques
  • Adhere to ATO RA TAT for HT samples and all required metrics
  • Ability to work and adapt in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Document, review results, and maintain electronic laboratory notebooks
  • Work with development team to implement methods in ATO RA, analyze and interpret data
  • Provide technical input and generate written reports as needed
  • Author, review, and data verify technical documents
  • Communicate project updates as appropriate
  • Solve technical problems with both instrument and assay issues as part of troubleshooting
  • Participate and present scientific data in meetings
  • Interact with clients for data and project demands
  • Maintain instruments and follow lab’s general equipment cleaning protocols
  • Train new staff members with assigned assays
  • Manage sample logistics/scheduling for purification and CE sub-teams

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master's degree OR
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in life science or related field with 1-2 years of industry experience
  • Possess good technical analytical techniques for LC, affinity purification, CE, and SDS-PAGE analyses
  • Experience with automation, such as TECAN, and software for use in high throughput lab setting
  • Proficient using data analyses software, such as Chromeleon, Empower, and 32Karat
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, a positive attitude, and proactive mindset
