Job Description

Bayer is currently building an integrative research institute and oncogenic signaling laboratory in Kendall Square on Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) campus. The lab will be housed temporarily at Tufts Biolabs Launchpad until building construction is completed in late 2021. Researchers will support the existing oncogenic signaling pipeline, including late stage assets, to achieve milestones and increase disease understanding and drive therapeutic development. The lab will also expand collaborative efforts in the Boston/Cambridge area to confirm findings and build potential licensing opportunities.

 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Associate Research Scientist, are to: 

 

  • Independently design and conduct process development experiments, assays, or operational procedures of a complex and non-routine nature in support of pre-determined corporate goals;
  • Apply knowledge of GLP requirements to practice in own functional area;
  • Analyze and interpret results, systems or procedures, troubleshoot failed experiments, assays or procedures and overcome obstacles and develop alternative experimental approaches;
  • Exercise sound technical judgment to solve a range of scientific problems;
  • Recommend new and innovative solutions to problems utilizing knowledge of unit operations, scientific creativity, independent thought and proficiency;
  • Interact with other departments on projects and contribute to overall success of specific project;
  • Interpret and effectively communicate scientific findings in one-on-one discussions and/or departmental meetings;
  • Take initiative in keeping current with field of specialty;
  • Present complete development summaries; may contribute to scientific literature;
  • Present projects and literature reports in a public forum;
  • Ensure that laboratory notebooks are consistently updated, audited, and well-maintained;
  • Identify novel drug targets.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree with at least eight years of relevant experience or M.S. dregree with at least six years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • At least five years of experience in pharmaceutical Research & Development;
  • Understanding of drug discovery processes and development process;
  • Experience in state of the art in vitro and in vivo laboratory techniques (gain and loss of function cell culture experiments, cellular target engagement assays, expression studies, in vivo studies on mouse and rat);
  • Demonstrate ability to design and perform experiments; assays, methods development, validation, scale-up or operations;
  • Demonstrate ability to independently troubleshoot problems requiring original thought;
  • Demonstrate knowledge in field of expertise (i.e.- unit operation, of literature, new developments, technologies and regulations);
  • Ability to apply scientific principles to the design and interpretation of scientific experiments;
  • Ability to exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criterion for obtaining results;
  • Ability to solve routine to complex operation and scientific problems requiring original thinking and deductive reasoning;
  • Prepare reports and interpretation and interpret the results of complex experiments.
