Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will seek out, develop and implement novel process and data automation solutions to advance our biologics drug discovery capabilities.

Amgen is seeking an innovative Senior Associate Scientist to join the Protein Engineering & Optimization (PEO) – Protein Chemistry team. PEO is a multidisciplinary team with broad capabilities in protein engineering, expression, purification, and characterization. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborate with molecular biology, display technologies, expression and purification experts to translate scientific needs and challenges into robust laboratory automation solutions
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to increase our throughput, improve quality and reduce cycle times
  • Apply technical skills to continuously improve and support automation technologies
  • Partner with Research Informatics and Automation teams to develop seamlessly integrated solutions

Basic Qualifications:

Master’s degree and 3 years of scientific experience OR

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated strong communication skills and ability to multi-task and work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Expertise with high through-put technologies, automation platforms, and data management.
  • Familiarity with modern programming languages, such as Python/R or PySpark.
  • Strong knowledge of protein purification, characterization, and analytical techniques; Knowledge of cloning, protein engineering and mammalian cell protein expression.
  • Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement in research, exemplified by a strong publication and/or patent record
