Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. The Cardiometabolic Disorders Therapeutic Area at Amgen-South San Francisco is seeking a Senior Associate Scientist or Scientist to join our dynamic team and contribute to the discovery of novel targets and drug development.
Position Responsibilities
This position is laboratory-based, requires proficient experimental skills and an aptitude to work effectively in an integrated environment. The ideal candidate is an expert in in vitro pharmacology with extensive experience in the design, validation and execution of cell-based or biochemical assays to evaluate small and large molecules. A proven track record as demonstrated through high-impact scientific publications, patents or IND-filing is essential. Highly motivated candidates with hands-on, experience in specialized domains of molecular and cellular biology with basic animal handling skills are encouraged to apply.

Basic Qualifications
Ph.D and equivalent advanced degree
OR Master’s degree and 3 years of scientific experience
OR Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of scientific experience
Preferred Qualifications
For Sr Associate Scientist, M.S or Ph.D in biomedical sciences with relevant hands-on experience in cardiometabolic drug discovery. For Scientist, Ph.D in pharmacological sciences with substantial (>3yrs) postdoctoral training is necessary. Strong considerations will be given to applicants with industry work experience or training.
- Broad understanding of GPCR/receptor signaling, ion channel biology, cardiovascular diseases (HF, arrhythmia), autoimmunity, human genetics will be highly meritorious.
- Strong assay (TR-FRET, HTRF, FP, BRET, luminescence, ALPHA, kinase, epigenetic, cell-reporters, FACS, immunoassays, biomarker) development experience is required.
- General cell culture and gene manipulation, including CRISPRi, CRISPRa, siRNA, shRNA, mod-mRNA and viral transduction.
- General molecular biology and biochemical techniques including protein, mRNA detection via immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry, RT-qPCR, immunoprecipitation and ELISA.
- Expertise in maintaining and differentiating human iPSC and genetic engineering of clones (CRISPR/TALEN) will be highly preferred.
- Experience in various biochemical assays (protein-protein interactions, enzymatic turnover, probe displacement, radioligand binding) will be a plus
- Experience in safe handling of human specimens or an ability to perform in vivo or ex vivo studies using rodent models of heart disease (Langendorff, TAC, LAD-ligation, AngII/PE pumps) will also be highly advantageous.
- Meticulous and detailed experimental book-keeping skills are a must.
- Ability to synthesize technical information from published literature and present clear summaries of results to guide go/no-go decisions.
- Self-motivated, quick learner with excellent communication/analytical skills, able to adhere to strict compliance policies and work efficiently in a cross-functional team.
- Ability to manage competing priorities or projects and meet deadlines
- A passion for science and avid problem-solving skills as demonstrated by publications, patents or IND applications.
