If so, then the Experiences and Device Team in Microsoft’s Corporate External and Legal Affairs Group is the place for you.
We are looking for a dynamic, highly-motivated senior attorney to provide frontline legal support for a diverse portfolio of products including Microsoft mobile experiences (e.g., Android applications like Swiftkey, Your Phone, and Microsoft Launcher), as well as core productivity apps like OneNote, Microsoft To Do, and Microsoft’s educational products and services offerings.
This senior attorney will work at Microsoft’s global headquarters in Redmond, Washington.
Responsibilities
- Counseling and advising senior executives and their teams on a wide variety of complex and developing legal and business matters including student privacy, data security, intellectual property, consumer protection and regulatory compliance
- Drafting and negotiating transactional documents, including agreements relating to the development, distribution, and licensing of software and services
- Meeting with senior engineering, product planning and business clients on a regular basis to conduct legal reviews of business and product development activities
Qualifications
- Excellent academic credentials, a J.D. or equivalent from an ABA accredited law school, an active license to practice law, and at least 12+ years as a practicing attorney
- Experience in consumer and/or commercial product counseling
- Experience in intellectual property counseling, licensing, transactions and privacy in the software industry is preferred
- An ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines, and manage complex, multi-dimensional projects in a fast-paced environment and across geographies and inter-departmental teams
- Sound and practical business judgment, an ability to think strategically and a desire to establish a “trusted advisor” relationship with key business clients
- A problem-solving approach focused on achieving results that benefit our business as well as the business of our customers and partners
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the legal and non-legal contexts
- A team player with the ability to work with a diverse set of personalities across a large number of diverse internal groups, teams, divisions, geographical regions and cultures
- Open, respectful and effective negotiating skills
