The Senior Manager - Compliance and Risk Governance will manage Airbnb Payment’s oversight, governance, external compliance audit obligations and all associated remediation activities related to the AML, KYC, Sanctions and Payment Fraud programs.  This position is responsible for developing and managing oversight of the risk and compliance programs including proactive identification and remediation of gaps, as well as management of engagements with regulators and external auditors. Managing external audit obligations for payments compliance includes meeting directly with state and federal regulators to discuss the program, managing all interviews and document requests associated with the reviews, developing and tracking remediation activities, as well as ensuring all periodic independent assessment requirements are met in all jurisdictions that Airbnb Payments operates in. This role will be responsible for scoping, scheduling, managing and documenting all activities associated with Airbnb Payments compliance audit obligations regarding MTL licensing, NYDFS 504, and other independent assessment requirements globally.  

Duties:

  • Independently manage regulatory exams, including presenting program overviews, answering questions and managing all requests received from regulatory examiners related to AML, KYC and Sanctions programs.
  • Manage all open issues and associated remediation activities, including working with cross-functional partners to develop remediation plans, setting and tracking to expected remediation dates, escalating delays or other risks to senior management, and leading discussions around risk-based prioritization when required.  
  • Work closely with compliance team members to determine root cause of issues to ensure follow up activities will mitigate the risk of repeat findings. 
  • Prepare key team members for audits by coaching them how to work with regulators, ensuring all program requirements are documented in an auditable format, and supporting them in all interactions with the regulators. 
  • Distill actionable insights from interactions with examiners and other audits to continually improve global AML, KYC and Sanctions program. 
  • Coordinate with Program Managers on activities associated with internal control monitoring.
  • Ability to get up to speed on new operational processes and requirements quickly, to provide accurate and in depth responses to regulatory examiners and external auditors. 
  • Ability to review complex process and procedure documents with attention to detail to identify potential issues, inaccuracies, or areas of risk.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Compliance’s current processes

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Technical Equivalent
  • 8+ Years work experience, with demonstrated experience in regulatory compliance, audit, risk management, or related fields. 
  • Experience working directly with regulators preferred
  • Demonstrated experience working with compliance AML, KYC or Sanctions oversight, audit and/or process reviews
  • Strong process thinker
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining a high degree of quality
  • Ability to work closely and build trust with regulators and management

  • Professional Certification in compliance audit or risk management preferred.

The starting base pay for this role is between $150,000 and $190,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: education, experience, and skills. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
