Eaton’s Battery CoE accelerate the company’s growth through the development of battery platforms that are battery-agnostic, scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable, as well as standardized design methodologies and tools that can be adopted by multiple business units, which provides a foundation for our business to more rapidly develop innovative products with energy storage. Eaton’s Battery Center of Excellence (CoE) is currently seeking a Senior BMS Battery Algorithm Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Raleigh, NC location and is open to a Hybrid work schedule. Position Overview: The Senior BMS Battery Algorithm Engineer will be responsible for BMS battery algorithm development, including modeling, algorithm designs, implementation, and validation, for various applications such as UPS or energy storage applications. This individual will also be responsible for driving the use and adoption of model-based techniques during the NPI process. This includes the use of Model in the Loop (MIL) and Hardware in the Loop (HIL) methodologies during the design and validation. In this function you will: Develop and implement battery management algorithms such as State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), thermal management, and life prediction Initiate and lead design reviews and technical discussions, including brainstorming Develop battery models for performance and lifetime to support algorithm needs Support battery cell and module testing for characterization Develop test plans and procedures for algorithm validation Validate the algorithms on HIL and lab Work closely with the battery system, electrical, and FW engineers to implement, validate and test the algorithms Why work at Eaton? Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum of 4 years of related engineering experience in the development of firmware for energy storage, power conversion, or battery management system product. Minimum of 1 year of experience developing physics-based and empirical models for battery modeling. Minimum of 1 year of experience with developing plans, verifying algorithms, battery testing and characterization. Minimum of 1 year of experience with battery management system (BMS) requirements and functionality Minimum of 1 year of experience with different types of Li-Ion battery technology, their performance, and characteristics. Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree or higher in Electrical, Computer, Software Engineering or similar from an accredited institution. Experience in model-based battery algorithm development (e.g., Simulink Coder) Experience in battery algorithm validation with Hardware-In-Loop (HIL) (e.g., OPAL-RT) Understanding of safety, compliance, and regulatory standards (UL1642, UL1973, UL9540, etc.) Experience working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes Possess Six Sigma Certification Bilingual in English/Korean or English/Chinese Position Criteria: Ability to learn new skills, technical knowledge, products, or industry.
