R&D Science IT is a global IT capability supporting Drug Research, Drug Development, Product & Portfolio Strategy, Medical Affairs, Finance, HR, Compliance, Legal and Global Business Services. We are organized around 7 key capability areas: Business Partnering, Solution Delivery, Architecture, Application Support, Data & Analytics, Change & Operations, operating out of sites across the US, UK, Sweden, India and Mexico.
The Data & Analytics team provides technical support to analytics and data insight services and solutions critical to the Data & AI/ML emerging strategy and mission of R&D Science IT and AZ. Data & Analytics is organized into teams specializing in Information Architecture, Data Engineering, Visual Engineering, Knowledge Management, Data Science, Data Analysis and Information Governance.
Role
The role holder (Information Engineer) will be responsible for the design, development, evaluation & testing of reference data entities (codes, vocabularies, thesaurus, ontologies) and supporting the execution of the reference data management (RDM) platform. The role holder will work closely with Solution Architects (SAs) and Information Architects (IAs) for uploading of reference data entities in a cloud-based data hub environment as well as the deployment of RDM solution technologies including data integration and service architectures. One key responsibility of the Information Engineer will be to work collaboratively with the different levels of data models (e.g., Science Conceptual Model) and solution technologies (Master Data Management (MDM), & Data Catalogue (DC)) and to deliver integrated RDM services.
The key tasks of Information Engineer will be (i) ingestion of reference data entities: analyse, filter & upload reference data entities from R&D data sources; (ii) supporting change management activities: support Information Architects (IAs), Data Owners & Data Stewards in updating existing reference data entities to ensure seamless business as usual processes across R&D; and (iii) test & validation of reference entities, by participating and supporting the testing & quality teams while uploading new reference entities and/or update of reference entities.
The Information Engineer will be an integral and respected part of the data engineering team, whose input and expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the success of RDM delivery. The role will invariably be one of a ‘data chef’, understanding where reference data is in the estate, the suitability of the data to the problem in hand, the restrictions on using that data and documenting to enable re-use. We are planning to grow the reference data team over the next year, so this engineer will have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in establishing robust ways of working and customer service levels.
